{"id":2664,"date":"2016-08-29T05:05:05","date_gmt":"2016-08-29T04:05:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ateaseandmore.wordpress.com\/?p=2664"},"modified":"2018-09-14T13:43:07","modified_gmt":"2018-09-14T04:43:07","slug":"ict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/findingyourease.com\/ict\/","title":{"rendered":"ICT&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A rather interesting conversation, this weekend\u00a0between my kids and their friends while walking outside:<br \/>\nKids: &#8220;We will have ICT* lessons and then we will work on computers, that will be fun.&#8221;<br \/>\nMe: &#8220;Do you know what ICT stands for?&#8221;<br \/>\nKids: &#8220;Yes ipad, computer, telephone &#8211; I, C and\u00a0T; we will\u00a0use all three of them, how cool!&#8221;<br \/>\nMe &#8211; speechless with a smile.<\/p>\n<p>I tried to explain the real meaning but they were doubting me.\u00a0The minds of kids is rather interesting I may say. They then came up with &#8220;international communication tool&#8221; for ICT &#8211; not too bad I may say! I like\u00a0the international thinking there.<\/p>\n<p>While I do understand that kids grow up in an environment where they will have to learn with and about\u00a0computers early on, I at times struggle with it.\u00a0All the IT stuff &#8211; to me it is the next step, let kids be kids first and let them discover and enjoy the &#8220;basics&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Surely computers, iPads and phones all\u00a0make an easy and convenient time filler, and the temptation is always there. And much to the dismay of my kids, I limit the screen time at home to the very limit (I am aware that this will become harder and harder the older they get). But I think it is more important to let them explore outside, to play and especially to have them spend time with a real book, with pen and paper and in fact to let them\u00a0get bored to increase the creativity!<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we\u00a0can all set up ICT time at home and rephrase it\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>I<\/strong>nformation <strong>C<\/strong>ommunication <strong>T<\/strong>ools.
