This little item works great, but it has a small caveat if you want its full functionality.

As OBDII scanners go, this one does the job at a fraction of the price of a professional scanner. It shows all the information on the screen in an easy to set up software with an intuitive menu. Easy for even the least mechanically inclined people to use. However, you'll need a separate iPhone, iPad, or Android device to install the app onto.

It color codes the issues as to their importance. Green means you should be fine and it's more of a suggestion than an issue, Yellow means check it out soon or have a mechanic take a look, Red means you should probably stop driving your car and set it on fire. Just kidding. But the information is displayed fully with the OBDII codes along with the explanations as to what they are. In my case, there was a Stored Code and a few Pending Codes. The Stored Code defined what the code is, however the Pending Codes showed 'Unknown Issue'. I had to go online later to look them up. There's also an option to clear the dash lights that did not work for me. So does the scanner work? Definitely. Is it worth it? Probably not, and here's why.

The caveat I mentioned? You have to purchase their Premium version at a yearly fee of $99.00 if you want to unlock the scanner's full potential. It includes;

"Cost and repair estimates from the Identifix database, Unlimited calls to our FIXD Mechanic Hotline for a trusted second opinion and DIY help from our network of ASE certified mechanics, And much more! FIXD Premium is a monthly subscription that is optional and is not required for use of the sensor."

After the purchase price of $37, that makes this little bugger $137 right off the bat, with an additional $99/year after that. However, they do let you try it free for one week (cancel at any time). If you're using this scanner for multiple vehicles, and you're getting paid for it, then you might find the fee not so much of an inconvenience. However, if you're like me and are only using it on your daily driver, how often do you think you're going to use it to qualify that fee? I used it this once, found the codes, and now it'll probably sit on a shelf until the next time the need arises for it. And since I'm mechanically inclined, I can resolve the issues on my own. But, again, "the subscription is optional and is not required for use of the sensor."

If you want a scanner that offers more functionality with no extra costs involved then purchase one of those instead. But if you're an average Joe or Jolene and you just want to see why your car has those dash lights always on, then this little guy does the job just fine.

Works well. Good product.

UPDATE: So the scanner app has had a couple of updates and I've re-tried it again on my cars. It keeps reading a fault that I had fixed. I checked the car with the other OBD scanner I have and it came up clear. Overall I absolutely still recommend this FIXD scanner, it's better than nothing and it gives good insight. It's also very user friendly. But use it with a grain of salt, or if you can in addition to another scanner.

ORIGINAL: I'm starting to look at cars for my daughter and wanted some assurance about the used cars I was looking at. First let me say this was super easy to set up! And it is very user friendly, the information provided after the scan is easy to understand. I definitely prefer it over the normal OBD scanner (you can see it in the background of my picture) and it's small so it fits easily in your pocket or purse.

I currently have 2 cars and tested this on both cars because I wanted to make sure the data being provided is accurate. Results: AMAZING!! For the first time ever on Amazon I wish I could give something more than 5 stars!

My older car has one big issue that I am aware of but no lights or anything. This picked up on that issue and provided possible fixes and estimated costs associated with each possible repair.

My second car is basically brand new, this scanner did not alert to anything (obviously because the car is brand new). I now have full confidence when shopping around that this scanner will alert me to any issues.

IT GETS BETTER! This scanner also shows vehicle owner history and theft issues. Great feature! The premium side offers more awesome features.

You seriously can't beat this for the price, literally saving yourself thousands of dollars.

The check engine light came on in my truck & it was running rough. I remembered my wife bought me this tool a couple of years ago for Christmas; so, I got it out. After I found the tool, I downloaded the app to my iPhone, registered the device, and plugged it in under the dash to the OBD2 connection. I then started the truck, opened the app on my phone, registered the reader, & told it to run a scan. It told me that #7 cylinder was not firing & gave me several possible reasons for the misfiring, and even suggested the approximate cost to fix the problem.

I had no problem with compatibility with my cell phone or my truck--it is great--& thought it was extremely easy to use. The portability is great because is small & easy to use.

The app also played a video that showed how to check parts such as the ignition coil. Another thing is that, since I'm retired, I may not choose to do the work myself, but I feel more confident that I won't get lied to or taken to the cleaner for repair work.

Was trying to get this to connect to a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Was told it should connect since the vehicle is newer than 1996 and gasoline powered. I was able to connect it to another vehicle, however, I bought to specifically connect to the Camaro. I was able to connect 3 other OBD scanners to my Camaro (Autel, Innova, Foxwell), but I needed the Fixd scanner to connect to be able to complete a Carvana sale. I spent the better part of a day trying to find out through the Fixd customer service if there was a compatibility issue with that particular vehicle/engine. I was given the run around about rebooting devices, uninstalling apps, removing sensors, etc. even though I proved the device would work on other vehicles. Even after repeatedly doing all of the tasks customer service recommended, nothing had changed. Customer service instead tried to sell me on their subscription based service of Fixd Premium. There was some techinical assistance offered over the phone, but they offered no value and seemed to not understand what steps had alredy been done, even though I told them what I had done, and lacked basic troubleshooting logic. Most of the technical assistance came over email, which after about 3 emails, they ignored and refused to return any messages. There are better OBD scanners out there and if for some reason your vehicle is incompatible with this one, you will just waste your time, money and efforts.

Great product, I used it on my 2020 Toyota Corolla SE, to make sure everything is working fine, everything is good, but having a scanner like FIXD make any type of repairs much easier.

The good: Installation was very easy. However, linking via bluetooth to your smartphone involves getting a confirmation code via email.

The bad:

1. I have now read in other reviews that this thing needs internet access (through your cell's data connection) to function. That means if you're stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere with no cell signal (or no data), then you're on your own. This thing isn't going to help you.

2. The dongle is a bit long, so if your OBD2 port points downwards, this might not be the most compact fit. You'll see it sticking out from under your dash.

3. I've now read in another review that this thing can interfere with the car's smart key fob. Indeed, when we had this thing plugged in, the pushbutton ignition had trouble communicating with the key fob.

4. IN-APP PURCHASES absolutely dominate the application. Easily 80% of everything you see in the application is promoting a subscriber-based premium service. The other 20% is pretty easily lost. So I deduct at least a star for the annoyance factor. Also much of the orientation of the app seems to be towards directing you towards a mechanic and knowing how to talk intelligently with the mechanic about what is wrong with your car. This is great for someone who doesn't know anything about cars. But if you're like me (and I imagine I am typical of 90% of the market of this device), you already know about cars, and all this stuff is just more annoyance. Truly, what you want to see gets completely lost.

5. Oil pressure: Fair warning: The vast majority of cars don't have OBD2 data about oil pressure (or oil temperature). It's no fault of this device, but just know that these data are likely not viewable.

6. THOUSANDS of promised readable parameters turn out to be much, much fewer. Maybe a hundred? Maybe less?

7. I selected this specific device because a review I read said that it would read odometer data and remind you of needed service (e.g. oil changes). In fact it will let you enter the odometer reading of your last oil change. Then if you are curious whether you are due for an oil change, you can enter the current odometer reading, and it will calculate for you. (I think I'm good enough at math to figure that one out for myself - with much less effort.)

8. A review I read promised that this thing can read transmission and airbag codes. It cannot.

9. There are much cheaper dongles that will do essentially the same thing, with interfaces that don't demand an internet connection and applications that are far less annoying. Moreover, many of these dongles work with multiple applications available in the Google and Apple apps stores - some free, some for purchase.

I really wanted OBD data to stream to my cellphone and to result in push notifications if any parameters went out of range (e.g. temp) or if the oil needed changing. This should be an easy thing to program, but for some reason it seems not to be available in any application I can find for a dongle.

I solved this need, I THINK, with a hardwired Lufi XS OBD2 gauge display that I've placed on order. It supports alarms, and it is GPS capable. Because of the GPS capability, it can track distance traveled and serve as an editable odometer. I should therefore be able to reset the GPS odometer with every oil change to keep track of service intervals. That frees up the vehicle's real odometer for ordinary use. (I wish my car just had an oil reminder light. It would be so much easier.)

About ready to purchase a used car for my son and I decided to use this device on our 3 yr old Toyota Camry Hybrid! This device works! It is very easy to use and the size is just right! It gave me what our car was going to need, when and even where you can take as well as how much it would cost! Love this!!!!

Brilliant item its functionality is easy to use and it's size is brilliant as you can plug it in and it's not in the way when drive whilst it is fault code detecting definitely value for money and I would recommend this item and the seller

Tells you what is wrong, basically the same as an automechanic's device would but in simple terms. We had a misfire and took it to a mechanic to confirm and they told us the exact thing. I do not like, however, how they push the membership on you with every click. In our day and age, Google helps way more and for free. Unless you are constantly having a check engine light come on, I wouldn't recommend the membership. I wish they would be a little more forthcoming with information on the diagnosis but I get they have to make money and support their employees, but it is another money grab.

It's really good for clearing engine lights, and tells you how to clear them or what to try if they don't clear. I'd recommend these over the conventional OB2 scanners for the sheer fact this is user friendly. My husband is just starting to learn how to do fixes on our car, and with the help of our local auto shop he was able to fix and clear the engine light. Between the purchase of this, our trip to the mechanic and fixing it ourselves we saved about 300-400$.

Recommend highly for anyone who isn't fluent in mechanic tech and even if you are its great. As someone who doesn't know much about vehicles I had more confidence when calling the mechanic and finding info on our fix. They don't want you to use it on multiple vehicles but ha were going to - they recommend one per vehicle ...

Overall, good choice for us. Would recommend to really anyone to have, even if your check engine light hasn't come on ... handy to have!
