It's radically different than the original was, but the new version is also more powerful, borrowing a few of the lessons I've learned from Cache Out. I'm taking my time to be sure it's just right. I hope for a 1.0 relaunch by the end of July, if not sooner.
\n
\n
\n
I've begun work on an iOS/iPadOS app to track RV maintenance and trips since I haven't found one I like well enough. "content_html": "
It's been nearly two months since I last posted anything of substance to my blog. Life has been a whirlwind with the new promotion. Between that, the new app I've been working on, and other life stuff, it's been go, go, go. I somehow managed an afternoon without any meetings today, so I thought I'd take a few minutes to write.
\n
First, the promotion transition is going well. I was thrown into the deep end of the pool with very little guidance, which is okay with me. I'm the type who learns by failing once or twice. I'd rather do it my way than someone else's. Getting up to speed with my new direct reports and the projects they're working on has been like drinking from a firehose. There's been a whole new level of meetings too. I don't get to do hands on much now. I'm not sure how I feel about it.
\n
I spent all last week in Bentonville, Arkansas. Since VIZIO is owned by Walmart, I got to go the home office for their Associate's Week celebration. I've worked for "big" companies in the past, but Walmart is a machine. The new campus is quite impressive and very modern. I had the opportunity to meet several people I've been working with virtually for the last year and a half too. Oh, and I got to swing a golf club for the first time at a team building outing. I think I'm hooked.
\n
I've been grinding really hard on my new Mac app, Cache Out, for the last month. I started work on it more than six months ago, and as I saw it beginning to take shape, it became more and more of an obsession. I'm really pleased with where it's ended up and I'm looking forward to where it's headed. Keep an eye on it if you're a Mac user who uses different browsers and would like to use a tool for clearing caches, history, downloads, etc. easily.
\n
The Cache Out work has me thinking about resurrecting Yasu too…
\n
In between, I released an Obsidian to OmniFocus task sync plugin. It already has a small user base that's slowly building. I'm kind of proud of how this one turned out. I use it almost every day and it's been a huge time saver. That's all that matters.
\n
I'm coming up on the anniversary of my CABG X4 on June 30, 2026. It's amazing to think that it's already been a year. I'm back to the crazy life I was living prior and it almost seems like it never even happened -- if it weren't for the scar on my chest I look at every day in the mirror. I thank God for the new lease on life every single day.
\n
My wife is going on month three of her retirement. She's happier than she's ever been and is really glad she made the choice. So am I. Life has been pretty good lately.
\n
That's enough of a brain dump. There's more happening, and this is the top of mind things. Hopefully it won't be another two months before I publish more than just a handful of words.
\n",

            "content_html": "
If you've read along for any amount of time, you may or may not know that I once developed a Mac application named Yasu (short for "Yet another system utility) that was pretty popular back in the day when Mac OS needed a utility to clean the cruft that built up over time.
\n
I turned that application over to another developer back in 2017 (nearly 10 years ago now!), and he never did anything with it. I may have to resurrect it again, but that's a whole different story. Maybe more on it at a later date.
\n
Anyway, one of the nice features of Yasu was the ability to remove the cache, browsing history, download history, favicons and cookies for the web browsers installed on your system all at once.
\n
In the web development work I do, I often want to clear these files from the browsers I test with in order to start fresh. Just like everyone else, I find having to go into the settings for each browser to accomplish this a major pain.
\n
This is what led me to create my new Mac app, Cache Out. Just like Yasu, it clears all of the files in one go, but it lets you select which browsers you want to do it for, rather than performing a nuclear purge. It's also smart enough to know exactly what supported browsers you have installed on your computer.
\n
Cache Out works for all of the browsers with at least 1% marketshare -- plus Orion because I use it myself. I have plans to add support for other lesser known browsers too like Helium, Wavebox, Openin, Velja, and Anybox soon.
\n
Cache Out is a free donationware app because I believe in giving back to the Mac community.
\n
A lot of people don't realize it, but there are significant out of pocket costs when it comes to developing applications for the Mac. If a developer offers their app freely, but asks for donations, you should consider donating something to them. Not only does it make them feel appreciated, it helps offset the developer membership that's needed to publish apps.
\n
This is in no way a plea for Cache Out donations. I'm at a place in life where I don't need them -- though I do appreciate them when I get them. I'm just asking that you consider supporting the hard work of developers if you're in a position to.
\n
It's been fun to learn SwiftUI with this project. I'm looking forward to developing other apps that scratch my own needs too. And that, dear reader, is the reason I created Cache Out to begin with.
\n
Happy to hear feedback or take feature requests.
\n",
