I’m João Pedro Fonseca, a dedicated telecom researcher and PhD candidate specializing in 5G and 6G technologies. My doctoral research at the University of Aveiro focuses on vertical-aware, dynamic system orchestration to optimize network performance through innovative approaches. My work in telecom R&D spans from cutting-edge 5G slicing and orchestration to pioneering intent-based networking and open RAN architectures.

Since December 2025, I am working for Onomondo, a company based in Copenhagen, as a Senior Network Engineer. With Onomondo, you can connect your IoT devices and create secure, private networks.

Before, I worked as a Senior Researcher at Iquadrat in Barcelona, where I focused on designing and validating advanced telecom solutions. There, I have proven my ability in EU-funded project leadership, as well as design, development, and integration of telecom solutions. My past experience has made me an expert in network automation and intent-driven networking, and I have contributed to various projects related to 5G/B5G technologies. Previously, as an R&D Connectivity & Network Engineer at Capgemini Engineering, Porto. I played a crucial role in validating Open RAN and O-RAN architectures. My professional journey began as a Research Fellow at Instituto de Telecomunicações, where I made several contributions to the H2020 5Growth project and system orchestration.

Committed to the open-source community, I actively contribute to several projects. In the past, I was involved with the ETSI Open Source MANO project, where I addressed bugs and provided community support. My involvement in the University of Aveiro’s Linux User Group (GLUA) as a senior member reflects my dedication to promoting open-source technologies. GLUA’s workshops and events are a testament to my passion for fostering a collaborative and innovative tech community.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I am an avid language learner and enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, running, and swimming. These interests bring balance to my life and inspire my problem-solving and innovative thinking.
