Greater adoption of Bitcoin

The election victory for President Trump has earned tech mogul, Elon Musk, a seat in government with Vivek Ramaswamy as heads of the “Department of Government Efficiency”, acronym “DOGE”, which also happens to be the ticker symbol for the famous meme coin “Dogecoin”, a coin Musk has shown interest in, “Dogecoin might be my fav cryptocurrency. It’s pretty cool.” Musk said on X.

Tesla in March 2021 accepted Bitcoin as a payment method to purchase their eco-friendly cars. We believe there will most likely be an increase in Bitcoin adoption for commerce, and corporations and governments may decide to hold Bitcoin as a treasury asset. El Salvador currently also owns Bitcoin and declared Bitcoin as their legal tender.

The Bitcoin halving is projected to occur approximately in April 2025, this typically enables a bullish run. The last bull run was 2021, and 2017 also before that.

President Trump who attended the 2024 Bitcoin Conference said, “For too long, our government has violated the cardinal rule that every bitcoiner knows by heart: Never sell your bitcoin”.

Stablecoins adoption in financial systems

So far in 2024, PayPal launched their very own USD stablecoin called “PYUSD” to compete with likes of USDT and USDC. We believe stablecoins will bridge the gap between traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralised finance (DeFi).

With Luna’s stablecoin crash, we believe more stablecoins will leave the algorithmic methods of stability and will focus on having physical assets for their stablecoins. Stablecoin firms traditionally collateralise their circulating supply with bank deposits, time deposits and certificate of deposits, U.S. treasuries and U.S. agency securities.

More ETFs by Asset Managers

BlackRock has established Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, and Greyscale has a range of crypto ETFs. We expect more institutions to establish more ETFs, possibly focusing on Bitcoin first and then other crypto assets.

Gary Gensler, who is the Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) will be most likely replaced by Paul Atkins, who is President Trump’s nomination. Each nomination made by a President is made by the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate. However, Paul Atkins is a well-known pro-crypto individual, if Atkins was approved by the Senate, this would likely lead to increases in SEC’s approvals of ETFs established by asset managers. This possibly gives crypto a friendlier regulatory environment.

Overall, we expect to see substantial developments, both technologically and legislatively, in the cryptoeconomy, with a greater adoption globally.
