Natural rubber makes up to 20% of a passenger car tire’s and up to 40% of a truck tire’s weight – and for good reason. The molecular structure of natural rubber gives tires unique properties that synthetic alternatives as of today simply cannot replicate. That's why, in modern tire design, natural rubber isn't a legacy material – it's indespensable. With more than 70% of the global natural rubber production being used for tires, our industry depends on this resource like no other. This comes with responsibility: we are committed to sourcing natural rubber transparently and responsibly – protecting forests, biodiversity and the livelihoods of the smallholder farmers who cultivate the Hevea brasiliensis tree in tropical regions. A Tour de France road bike tire is a bit like a Swiss Army knife: it has to do many things at once – and do them all exceptionally well. But what exactly does that mean? Cyclist Tegan Phillips joined our expert Hannah at our production facility to find out. The answer is more complex than you might think 🚴 Hannah explains what really makes the difference between a good ride and a great one – from what happens when a tire spins up to 750 times per minute to why the contact patch with the road is so critical. Curious? Find out more! 🎬

Wind and sun are about to team up for our tire production in Korbach, Germany. We're building our first company-owned wind farm near our Korbach plant. The construction of three turbines begins in 2026 and around a year and a half later they will join forces with our existing photovoltaic systems. Together they will generate around 55 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year - covering two-thirds of our plant's demand. And whenever wind and sun don't deliver enough, existing infrastructure keeps our production running reliably. The power flows directly into tire production, supplying energy-intensive processes like mixing and extrusion. This means more predictable energy costs through less exposure to volatile energy markets. Beyond Korbach, this project serves as a blueprint: We're continuously assessing other Continental sites worldwide for similar initiatives – to grow our share of renewable energy generated close to where we need it.

Did you know that the contact patch between your tire and the road is roughly the size of a postcard? 📮 Four small patches – that's all that connects your car to the road. And in tough conditions, only about 20% of that area may actually provide grip. In the latest episode of The Continental Tires Garage, our tread design expert Claudia Bauer explains how every groove and sipe is engineered using more than 120 years of expertise, big data and advanced simulation tools – long before the first steel mold is even built. From hand-carved treads in 1904 to today's high-tech designs, this is where art meets science. Find out more: https://ow.ly/yPll50ZlSXY

In tomorrow's episode, our Continental Tires Garage will look more like a creative workshop – with postcards, an antique carving tool and 3D-printed tread samples on the workbench. They’re all part of exploring one of the most underestimated pieces of engineering on your car: the tire tread. Together with our tread design expert Claudia Bauer, we take a closer look at why every groove, sipe and tread block is the result of extensive engineering and testing – and what 120 years of tread design history have taught us along the way. Stay tuned – the new episode drops tomorrow!

Did you know that a Tour de France tire spins up to 750 times per minute? And that's just one of many demands it has to meet 🚴 When the world's best cyclists line up for the Tour de France, their tire choice can mean the difference between winning and losing. So the right tire isn't optional – it's essential. Join cyclist Tegan Phillips as she set out to answer the questions that might have been on your mind as well: Does the tire really make a difference? And how do the pros pick the right one from so many models? 🚴 To find out, she visited our production facility in Korbach, Germany, where she met with our experts. Together, they explain the key performance characteristics of a Tour de France tire – and why professionals and everyday cyclists alike should consider the route, weather and terrain when choosing the right tire. And here's the best part: the same tires the pros ride are available to everyday cyclists. Curious about Tegan's key takeaways? Learn more: https://ow.ly/1M9P50Ziasu

Where does the next generation of passionate technology experts come from? Part of the answer can be found close to our headquarters at the IdeenExpo in Hanover, Europe's largest technology and innovation festival for young people. More than 50 of our apprentices and dual-study students designed, built and programmed most of the exhibits shown at our Continental booth. From tire carving to laser engraving, each one tells a story about what a tire really represents: technology, precision efficiency – and creativity that pushes boundaries.
