I read the original version of this novel a few years ago and was delighted to read it again. “Holiday at Pemberley” by Kelly Miller was a favorite of mine, and I think I love the newly edited version even more. This variation finds Darcy and Elizabeth married with a charming toddler son. Life is good for Darcy. Elizabeth’s birthday is coming soon with much celebration and a surprise birthday present from him. Then he meets with a potentially fatal accident. But he doesn’t die. Strange. And it gets even stranger with the arrival of Mr. Graham, a handsome man not of this world who wants to learn about mortal life, especially life at the Pemberley estate. Darcy has no choice but to go along with this charming but dangerous being. What is he capable of? The drama increases with the arrival of his always challenging aunt, Lady Catherine. She has never forgiven Darcy and Elizabeth for marrying and plots to disrupt their happiness. As in all of Ms. Miller’s Pride and Prejudice variation Regency romances, the historical details include not only clothing, manners, dialogue, and so much more, but also period-specific spelling. Ms. Miller’s attention to history makes reading her novels an adventure in stepping back in time. “Holiday at Pemberley” is charming, romantic, and with just the right about of suspense for a delightful reading escape. Highly recommended.

The author does an excellent job writing in the style of Jane Austen. She has clearly done a lot of careful research, even using lots of old English terms and items like ‘pomfrey cakes’. I found myself looking up a lot of the things she mentioned. The book is such a surprising and interesting combo of the classic English historical romance world of pride and prejudice with the combination of fantasy elements. She also does a good job of weaving in lots of side plots from the other characters of the book, even giving very interesting and enjoyable new endings by flushing out characters like Catherine De Bourgh, her daughter Anne, and Mr. Bingley and Jane. I also found myself wishing I could have a novel that showed Elizabeth and fitzwilliam living happily as a married couple and this book really scratched that itch with the mild but pleasing romantic scenes. Overall a fun, thoughtful and enjoyable read.

I’ve lost track of how many Kelly Miller books I have read. Her reimagining Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice characters are a quick “yes” for me. This one was particularly different as it has a paranormal element added. You get the favorite characters and an original storyline. The plot was entirely new and so totally out left field that it was a pleasure to read.

I love Regency Romance and this one checks all the boxes. The issue with Darcy not mentioning why he never told Lady Catherine he never intended to marry her daughter Anne, was skillfully and satisfyingly dealt with in this story. So, while you are entertained by the mysterious Mr. Graham, you get unaddressed issues from the original P&P explained with possible scenarios. I like to see the forgotten characters get their happy ending, as with Anne. I also liked the fact that Ms. Miller added some creative reasoning as to why Lady Catherine was the way she was. Without giving any spoilers away, it was nicely wrapped up.

As usual Ms. Miller writes well and the book was well edited, period appropriate and interesting. You do have to put on your paranormal-hat and just go with the angel of death trope in this adaptation, but it is an easy leap to make. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen. Also, as with many paranormal stories, not everything was explained such as who “father” was when Graham and his brother were talking about Graham taking his holiday from being an angel of death. So, the overall impression of the book is very “woo woo.” That is not a bad thing because I think the attraction here is more that the story is so different as to be satisfying. Having said that, you could replace all the character’s names and places with any Regency era names, and it could easily not be a Jane Austen adaptation. Overall, it is not needed to have Elizabeth and Darcy in Pemberly as the main characters, any character would suffice, but it is familiarity of them that gives the book a bit more intrigue.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the mystery of it. The ending was a little anti-climactic, but I like that everyone seemed to get their happy ending.

This book starts with a terrible accident. Quite frankly, you will be howling nooooo in your head-however it does not proceed as it seems. Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship is sweet, loving and deep throughout the entire book. The angst (and it isn’t really angst) is in the plot line. My fingernails are much shorter now, after reading this. Incredibly well written and plotted, with enough twists and turns to hold your interest. And the suspense continues right through to the end. Such a wonderful book.

Miller outdid herself with this particular version of Pride and Prejudice. There are plenty of surprises within, unexpected, yet if great entertainment. I think that out of the versions I've read, this is my favorite. Another winner, in my opinion.

I usually shy away from paranormal but I was suck into the realm and I’m glad I read it. Great job.

A huge fan as I am of Kelly Miller’s work, the fact that I’ve already read the story of the angel of death coercing Mr Darcy into entertaining him as his guest at Pemberley so that he could study the mortals’ ways didn’t stop me from purchasing this book. I loved the original version, ‘Death Takes a Holiday at Pemberley,’ and, since I never miss a new release from this author, I couldn’t skip this one.

I wasn’t disappointed in the least! The story proved to be as charming as I remembered it, and I devoured it in just a few sittings. An epilogue was a welcome addition to the previous version and supplemented the overall story most fittingly.

I enjoy the way Kelly Miller expands the universe that Jane Austen fans have grown to love. If you, like me, reread ‘Pride and Prejudice’ countless times – yes, I lost count of how many times I’ve thumbed through the now yellow and thinning pages of my very first beloved volume of the book – and every time felt bereft at the end, craving to get a glimpse of Lizzy and Mr Darcy’s married life, then you simply must read this book. ‘Holiday at Pemberley’ is full of charming domestic and familial bliss scenes of those two. I admire the elegant manner in which the author steps into Ms Austen’s shoes and carries on seamlessly from where the original story finished or, in some of the variations, offers an alternative course of events.

In this book, Mr Graham, a new character the author introduces, has the potential to become readers' favourite in his own right, not because they fell in love with him in one of Jane Austen’s original novels. An angel of death he might be, which lends him a portion of guaranteed allure; yet, there is more to him than magical powers and great looks. I liked witnessing his transformation from the arrogant, all-powerful, deity-like creature to someone very different.

Elizabeth and Mr Darcy are lovely in the roles of parents. But even more than reading about their interactions with their two-year-old son Bennet – a wonderful choice to name their firstborn if you ask me – I loved the twist involving Lady Catherine. I don’t think I’ll be far from the truth if I say that for most fans, the formidable lady of Rosings is the character who, along with Mr Collins – another absolute charmer – ‘spices up’ the ‘Pride and Prejudice’ otherwise gentle narrative. So, it was all the more gratifying to read Kelly Miller’s interpretation of why Lady Catherine has become the way we know – and love/hate – her.

Another moment that filled my heart with warmth is the role that Mr Darcy’s horse played in his fate. So in tune with what I think about these incredible creatures – the closest we get to magic in the real world – and how I see them.

I highly recommend this newest release by Kelly Miller to all ‘Pride and Prejudice’ fans, who aren’t averse to a supernatural twist to a beloved story.

All the warmth and charm you want from a Regency romance, with a creeping hint of something supernatural that had me hooked from chapter one. I’d recommend this to anyone who loves a cozy historical read with a touch of mystery.

This book offers an interesting mix of dark fantasy, political intrigue, adventure and mystery. The world-building is detailed, the characters feel layered, and the story gradually opens up with plenty of secrets, conflicts and unexpected developments. The pacing is a bit slow in the beginning, but once the plot gains momentum, it becomes quite engaging. A good read for readers who enjoy immersive fantasy worlds with strong political and character-driven storytelling.

As always, Kelly Miller delivers, and Holiday at Pemberley is a worthy Pride and Prejudice Variation. Miller instils real energy into her characters and, drawing inspiration from Austen, presents us with twists and turns, flaws and strengths that Austen herself would surely have approved of. The setting, the dialogue, and the way of life are so true to the time, and yet it is easy for us to engage as modern readers when the characters' innermost thoughts are akin to what we may have experienced ourselves. We are looking not only at Darcy and Elizabeth but at a family unit with relatives and friends to enrich the experience. Well done Kelly Miller!

This is a well-written and enjoyable story about Darcy and Elizabeth. The paranormal twist makes it unique and intriguing. As I am a fan of Jane Austen I found this book to be a charming romance.

I love Jane Austen so I was intrigued by the story of a sequel to the romance of Darcy and Elizabeth, but was wary of a supernatural twist being part of the novel. I needn’t have worried. Holiday at Pemberley is a thoroughly enjoyable read and the paranormal element is handled sensitively without being silly or (too) far-fetched. The characters from the original classic that appear in this story are authentically and credibly presented, particularly Lady Catherine de Bourgh. The book is quite a page turner as it zips along through the typically Austenesque intertwining of the lives of frail and repressed characters. A must-read for fans of Jane Austen.

Kelly Miller has delivered another well-written Regency romance novel that gets you interested right from the beginning. Like so many of this author's books, Holiday at Pemberley, is an easy to read, heartwarming story. It balances society and family drama during a fascinating period of time with an intriguing, mysterious twist that pulls you in for more.

Seeing Elizabeth and Darcy happily married with a young family is nice, but their peaceful life is soon turned upside down by an unexpected accident and a mysterious new arrival. What follows is a clever twist, filled with emotion and just the right amount of tension.

This mysterious angle of the story made the book quite compelling. If you are looking for a sweet, absorbing romance, I highly recommend giving this novel a read. In fact, all of this author's books are great!
