GluBear is a smart teddy bear that makes a child's existing continuous glucose monitor (CGM) friendlier. It reads the CGM data through the GluApp and turns it into a gentle lights and soft sounds a young child can understand, with green when in range, yellow when it's time to check soon, and red when attention is needed, adding comfort, understanding, and play on top of the medical data, rather than replacing it.
How is GluBear different from a CGM?
A CGM measures blood sugar and shows numbers; GluBear does not measure anything. Instead it expresses the CGM's data as a calm light and friendly sounds so a child reacts to reassurance, not alarming digits. The CGM provides the medicine; GluBear provides the comfort and the lesson.
For many families, the CGM is working, but the beeps, numbers, and clinical feel create fear and resistance, especially in younger kids. GluBear sits on top of that data and translates it into something a 4-, 6-, or 9-year-old actually wants to engage with.
Why not just use a smartwatch or a phone app?
Smartwatches and apps can deliver primary alerts, but they still rely on screens, buzzes, and numbers that can feel stressful or easy for a child to ignore. GluBear is a huggable, tangible companion designed for emotional safety and education that meets a child where they are developmentally, then teaches them through games and stories.
Who is GluBear best for?
GluBear is best for children ages 3–12 with Type 1 diabetes who feel anxious, scared, or burned out by glucose checks, and for the parents, grandparents, and school nurses who want to view trends remotely while helping a child build confidence and independence. GluBear is not intended to replace primary CGM alarms or medical advice.
