Funeral for the SOHO REI

Thu at 6pm · New York
New York is losing an icon, and it's our duty to celebrate Her. 🕊️Your attendance is requested for a celebration of life for our beloved Soho REI. A beloved pee spot to many. An familiar landmark to all those embarking on the F train. Dare we say, the crown jewel of Broadway & Lafayette...? Well, we hate to be the ones to break this news if you haven't heard, but our Queen Mother has finally been giving her resting date. While we don't know what the future holds for 309 Lafayette St, we know we'll gather outside her doorstep and give her the sendoff she deserves. Wear black. Bring flowers or relevant tributes. DM us if you'd like to submit a speech. (Prompt: what is the impact the SOHO REI has had on your life?) We'll have programs, speeches, and a moving musical performance. Gather. Mourn. FEEL. Be in community. We're timing this for the closing hours of the store, but exactly time TBA when we know if they're closing early, etc. (In all seriousness, this will be the last day for many workers at the store, and we're going to shower them with appulause and support on their last day <3)

The West Side Highway Run-In

Wed, Aug 12 at 6pm · New York
Everybody talks about the West Side Highway for one reason: It’s New York’s unofficial singles club. For one night Leg Day makes it official. Using the app, you’ll be able to see in real time if someone that caught your eye during your run, walk, strut, etc feels the same. Here’s how it will work: Step 1. Download Leg Day (the app that makes this all possible) Step 2. On August 12th, come run or walk on the West Side Highway. Step 3. Use the app to connect with people you want to meet. If it’s mutual, Leg Day will notify you! Those who match will be exclusively invited to our post-event venue on the West Side Highway! There you can finally mingle with your crush and share a drink (or two).

Bottom Of The Hill: My Dog Jack, Joe Kaplow, Rob Summerlin

Today at 7pm · San Francisco
🔥 In what is to be the hottest ticket, and the best looking crowd (that includes you baby) of the summer, local acts My Dog Jack, Joe Kaplow, and Rob Summerlin are celebrating the legendary Bottom of the Hill by hosting their biggest San Francisco show of the year 🔥 Bottom of the Hill, a staple of the San Francisco music scene and our favorite venue, is unfortunately closing its doors. We are going to be throwing down big dawgz, let’s get after it! This is THE show to come to. Ride your bike, ask someone out (in person), and fall in love, at our Bottom of the Hill, Last Waltz❤️ My Dog Jack is an Americana band that creates Modelo-fueled, woodsy tunes bound to get stuck in your head. Rooted in tight harmonies and strong original songwriting, My Dog Jack has become one of San Francisco's hottest new Americana bands and has built solid momentum throughout the US West Coast —they've become trusted openers for national Folk/Americana acts, including The Brothers Comatose, AJ Lee & Blue Summit, Esther Rose, and Never Come Down — earning a reputation as one punchiest live acts on the West Coast Americana circuit. National touring artist and Santa Cruz legend Joe Kaplow’s music is unique yet familiar, like a craftsman home. The foundation is set with a stand-alone song, blending folk tradition with modern indie sensibility. The walls and roof are raised with interesting musical choices and an unmistakable sound which creates a comfortable space inside for Joe and his bandmates to finish with the synergy and idiosyncrasy. One of the Sunsets finest songwriters, Rob Summerlin is an award-winning storyteller and merrymaker who moves between music, illustration, film, and performance. He is fond of characters who are slightly out of step with reality. Despite being ideological enemies, Rob is sexually attracted to Daniel Lurie. Rob is currently working on the book, music, and lyrics for his first musical, Uncle Jim. An original musical that blends American myth, dark humor, and dysfunctional family dynamics. Set in 1981 Texas, it tells the story of a jailed man dismissed as delusional for believing he’s an astronaut and his two nephews who run away from home to free h

QUEER PICTURE DAY

Sun, Aug 16 at 2pm · Oakland
QUEER PICTURE DAY 💌 by OMG Visuals I’ve had this idea in my mind for years and I’m finally bringing it to life. A lot of queer people never really got the chance to fully express ourselves as our fully realized selves growing up. So I wanted to create a Picture Day for us now. A space to document who we are, who we’ve become, and the versions of ourselves we dreamed about for so long. Come in your best whatever-that-means-to-you. Dress up, be soft, be bold, be sexy, be playful, be fully yourself. I want to capture the queer joy we carry and preserve this moment in time together. This will be a community portrait event with a backdrop, music, candid moments, and eventually a yearbook-style archive with “Most Likely To…” superlatives and community pages spotlighting the people and spaces that shape us. My dream is to make this a yearly series — something we can return to every year to see who we are becoming. We’ll be at my favorite bar in downtown Oakland during Pride with a DJ, good energy, beautiful people, and room to connect. Come ready to take portraits, meet new people, and be part of something special.

Sparks in the Park

Sat, Aug 15 at 2:30pm · Berkeley
Dear friends, If you are a single person in the Bay Area between 25-35 years old, please join us for a lovely afternoon in the park! This event is for people of all genders and sexualities who are looking for intentional connections that could lead to something more. We will facilitate a few low-stakes activities (more on this coming soon), which will start at 3pm. Please try to arrive before 3pm to check in with us, get yourself a nametag, and create some personal contact cards that you can share with people that you meet! On your nametag, you will be able to identify which gender(s) you’re interested in, whether you're (non)monogamous, and/or anything else that feels important to you! Please feel free to bring a treat to share, there will definitely be time for snacking and mingling.  Let us know if you have any questions or if you have any special needs/requests that we can accommodate. Looking forward to seeing you there <3. Warmly, Two girls who are about ready to boycott the apps (Siena and Celia) P.S. Still thinking this part through— We’re planning to create an optional google form for you to tell us more about yourself and/or the names of your crushes from the afternoon. After the event, we can do some match-making behind the scenes since there may have been a cutie you didn’t give your number to or others you didn’t get the chance to meet! What do you think?
