## Astral
A polyphonic wavetable synth for Organelle M, built around continuous
timbre morphing and 76 microtonal scales.
Two waveforms are blended in the **harmonic domain** and re-baked into the
oscillator table while you play — so the timbre keeps moving under your
fingers instead of stepping between presets.
This patch was built with ensemble playing in mind — specifically, playing
alongside **Phonicbloom’s Wing Drum**. Paired with the Wing Drum controller
app (which I wrote myself! :), both instruments sit on the same microtonal
tuning, so the two can genuinely play together in it. And if you carry it to
the region a scale came from, you might well find yourself playing with the
traditional musicians who have always used it.
### Features
– **8-voice polyphony**, click-free `line~` envelopes
– **12 source waveforms** — SINE, TRI, SQR, SAW, P25, P10, ORG, EVEN,
BELL, VOX, BUZZ, RAND
– **Live morphing** between any two of them, 0–127, updated while notes
are sounding. Two phase-locked tables crossfade on every commit, so the
sound never drops out or clicks mid-morph.
– **Harmonic macros** — spectral tilt, even-harmonic emphasis, and a
movable formant bump. All amplitude-normalised, so the level stays put
however far you push them.
– **76 microtonal scales**, all normalised to C, with a ROOT control to
place the tonic anywhere. Gamelan, maqam, raga, Byzantine, just
intonation, meantone, Werckmeister, 24-EDO and more. Position 0 is plain
equal temperament, so you can always get back.
– **Filter** — off, 12 dB lowpass, 12 dB bandpass, or 24 dB Moog-style ladder
– **GAIN stage** — 0 to +36 dB into a hard clip, for when you want it to
break up
– **OLED oscilloscope** showing the current wavetable, full width
– Full external MIDI: 88-key range, velocity, 14-bit pitch bend, mod
wheel, sustain pedal
### Controls
`aux` short press cycles pages. Hold `aux` and use the black keys to jump.
| Page | Knob 1 | Knob 2 | Knob 3 | Knob 4 |
|—|—|—|—|—|
| 1 ENV | ATK | DEC | SUS | REL |
| 2 OSC | WAVE A | WAVE B | MORPH | MORPH |
| 3 HARM | BRIGHT | WARM | NASAL | NASAL FREQ |
| 4 FILT | TYPE | CUTOFF | RES | GAIN |
| 5 SCALE | SCALE | – | – | ROOT |
Page 2 shows the live waveform instead of the usual readouts; the knob
values are summarised on the top line. MORPH sits on knobs 3 and 4 — both
work, whichever your hand reaches for.
On page 5, turn knob 1 to scroll the scale list. The selection lands in
the audio about 300 ms after you stop moving, so you can sweep the whole
list without hearing every scale in between. `*` on the top line means
it’s committed, `-` means you’re still browsing.
Knobs use pickup: after a page change they stay quiet until the physical
knob catches up with its stored position. This is normal Organelle
behaviour, but worth knowing on page 5, where nothing happens until you
find the catch point.

The microtonal tunings are derived from the **Scala scale archive**
(Manuel Op de Coul / Huygens-Fokker Foundation), by way of the WingDrum
Controller scale library.
