About Roma.

My name is Roman, but most people close to me have always called me Roma. It feels personal and somehow perfectly fitting for this project — a little Roman, a little Italian, and very much me.I’m based between Berlin and Ragusa, where I’m restoring an old Sicilian house step by step. What started as a personal dream quickly became a practical education in Italian real estate, local renovation work, builds, materials, water systems, old stone walls, invoices, bureaucracy and many small cultural Italian surprises and learnings.I document the process honestly on social media: the beautiful parts, the mistakes, the costs, the progress and the chaos in between.

I believe Ragusa is one of the most fascinating cities in Sicily: beautiful, practical, historic, sometimes complicated and full of potential.Through my renovation journey, I want to connect with people who are interested in old houses, restoration, local culture and life — especially around Ragusa, Modica, Scicli, Noto and the Val di Noto area.This is not just about one house. It’s about learning how to become part of a place with respect, patience and curiosity.

The house in Ragusa

My house is located in Ragusa, in South-East Sicily. It has high ceilings, balconies, a terrace, old sandstone walls, traces of previous generations — and more renovation questions than I expected.I’m restoring it mostly by myself and sometimes with professionals: roof, terrace, water and electrical systems, bathroom, stone walls, doors, windows and interiors.The goal is not to make it perfect. The goal is to save as much as possible the original details, make it beautiful, functional and respectful of the place.
