    As someone leveraging a broadcast background into a voice over career, this book really connected with me. Dave offers practical guidance, honest industry insight, and encouragement without sugarcoating the work it takes to succeed.

    What sets this book apart is that it gives you a process you can actually apply. The advice feels real, usable, and built from experience, not theory. Whether you are new to voiceover or already have performance and production experience, there is value here.

    One of the best ways to experience this book is alongside the companion audiobook. Hearing Dave’s delivery, tone, and emphasis adds another layer to the material and helps bring the lessons to life. It feels less like reading a book and more like learning directly from a coach.

    I’ve already revisited parts of it multiple times. If you are serious about improving your commercial read and building a vo career, this is a smart investment.

    Affectionately referred to as Dave’s “Luigi” as opposed to the 1st edition red “Mario”, the second edition adds additional insights and is in my opinion the most accessible source for learning how to sound more authentic in commercial voiceover. If you’re on the fence, do a quick YouTube search of Dave working with a student. You’ll see the magic at work and once you have this book you’ll have the actionable steps to do it yourself.

    I have it, I love it, and I use the skills from this book every day (now). If you want to get good/better/great at not just voiceover as a whole, but actually understanding and skillfully breaking down any commercial copy in front of you, this book is a must. ***Do yourself two favors! Read it out loud and pair it with the audiobook! Sure, VO is personal and unique for each voice actor… but acquiring the invaluable skill of quick and masterful copy comprehension will make you quicker, better, and stronger at the thing you already love to do (otherwise, why would you be here?).

    If you’re serious about wanting to become a professional voice actor, this is a must read. I bought several books in the past. Nothing comes close to the information and coaching that Dave gives in this book voice actors are paying hundreds of dollars an hour to get coaching advice that comes in this book. And it only cost you $20.
