Eager to share our work at @berkeley_ai making a foundation model for navigating any robot! With cross-embodiment training on a large transformer, our system is also capable of fine-tuning to new tasks.

We developed a new navigation model that can be trained on many robots and provides a general initialization for a wide range of downstream navigational tasks: visualnav-transformer.github.io ViNT (Visual Navigation Transformer) is a general-purpose navigational foundation model: 🧵👇

Be careful not to fall into the fallacies described well in this paper: arxiv.org/abs/2104.12871 . There is no evidence that LLM’s “understand” and “reason”. To be honest, we don’t even know how humans “understand” and “reason”.

This one goes out to the undergraduate AI research army that’s hammering away at the most undesirable engineering problems behind academic projects.

Curious to hear everyone’s first introduction to AI. Mine was training Mask R-CNN for CT scans in 10th grade. I didn’t know 70s per batch was slow and trained for 3 weeks. I ended up quadrupling my electric bill LOL. It’s crazy how much I’ve learned the past few years.

I like to think of ChatGPT as a distilled internet knowledge-base that gives nondeterministic answers to queries. I don’t get why everybody is so surprised when it gives answers that it was clearly trained on data for…

We should have more CV / visual perception papers baseline on robot learning instead of optimizing over constant, held-out images.
