This is the longest I had @AmpCode work without supervision - I could hardly believe it, it just kept going. The secret ingredients were: - giving Amp a structured planning tool (NOT markdown files) - telling it to use a subagent for each step of the plan. I had the plan

Amp now lets you provide tools to the agent with a few lines of code. Instead of writing an MCP server, you can drop any executable into a directory you tell Amp about. As long as the executable can produce a tool description, Amp will pick it up. This way Amp doesn't have to

Amp now has a better permission system. You can now define exactly which tool (built-in or MCP) can run with which arguments.

The more I work with LLMs, the more I see that inputs (= specs and plans) are more valuable than outputs (= code). But tooling for working on plans is lacking. So I had @AmpCode build me a neovim plugin to send an agent off in the background, refining a plan. I like the UX,

Telling @AmpCode about "tmux" is such a game changer: operating interactive commands in the terminal and monitoring long-running processes like is now a solved problem ✨ @GeoffreyHuntley what chaos would you cause with this?

After reading through what feels like the entirety of sqlite.org, I feel like SQLite fits 99% of all use cases, and where it doesn't a few loadable extensions can patch over the missing bits 🤔

I tell it to research and gather data to create a plan for achieving a goal, using the manage_plan tool. Then I run ` tasked plan inspect <name-of-plan>` to review the plan. I tell Amp to change the plan according to my review ("break down X in more detail by researching Y",

Sure thing! It's literally just a matter of telling it about how to use tmux. You can find the prompt I used here:

Thinking Traps from the pre-agentic age
Just like water is invisible to fish, so are habits that I’ve built up over the years before agentic coding.
