While Gov. Gavin Newsom increased the UC’s state funding for the upcoming fiscal year, the approved budget also included cuts to academic programs and scholarships, the UC Board of Regents said.

Jordan Roiland named 2027-28 UC student regent, first medical student to serve

This post was updated July 14 at 2:01 p.m. The UC Board of Regents appointed Jordan Roiland to be the 2027-28 student regent Tuesday.  Roiland, who is the first medical student to serve in the role, earned a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics & statistics and biochemistry from Stony Brook University and earned a Master of Science in Health and Medical Sciences from UC Berkeley in 2025.

After stepping away from day-to-day operations as head coach of the women’s water polo team in December due to rehabilitation from back and nerve pain, Adam Wright has officially resigned from the position, UCLA Athletics announced Friday.  Wright will continue to coach the men’s squad – a position he has held since 2009.  [Related: Women’s water polo coach Adam Wright to step away from day-to-day duties] UCLA will begin a national search for its next head coach.


Lauren Betts furthers Bruin legacy with historic ESPY victory

Former UCLA center Lauren Betts won the ESPY for Best College Athlete – Women’s Sports, beating out Pittsburgh volleyball’s Olivia Babcock, Northwestern lacrosse’s Madison Taylor and Oklahoma gymnastics’ Faith Torrez on Wednesday night.

The contract stipulates pay increases for all workers – for some, pay increases of up to 80% – as well as anti-harassment policies and increased childcare support.
