With my paintings, I hope to catch a glimpse into fallen and faraway worlds and at their inhabitants, sometimes ethereal, sometimes sinister. In all of it, I’ve (or the metaphorical magpie that lives within me has) a penchant for armour, flowing fabric, and the liquid reflections light tends to create on them.
My style is influenced by Gothic horror and literature, Japanese design sensibilities, and a deep veneration for nature, foggy forests and fens, moss-covered gorges, and thunderstorms. There’s a comfort in darkness that I find hard to explain.
It rots and decays, yet its scars doth remain.
Stories of bone-deep fear, of despair, gloom and death,
that steal what little hope is left, and make one’s flesh shiver with their ice-touched breath.
Yet here I sit, in the glimmer of flame,
wishing to enter that world, experience its tragedy,
and capture it inside a frame.
