St. Paul triple homicide: Person of interest in custody after apartment shooting

The St. Paul Police Department says a person of interest is in custody after three people were fatally shot inside an apartment complex leasing office Monday afternoon.

St. Paul homicide investigation

St. Paul Police Chief Axel Henry said at a Monday evening news conference that officers responded just after 4 p.m. to a report of shots fired on the 1500 block of St. Paul Avenue, which is near the Davern Park Apartments. When officers arrived, they found three people dead inside the leasing area of an apartment complex.

Police say the building was immediately evacuated for the safety of other residents, as law enforcement conducted its investigation.

"This is an unbelievable big tragedy for our city, and it will not be accepted," Henry said. "To the individual or individuals responsible, turn yourself in, because we will find you and hold you accountable. This community does not accept this type of behavior, it is not going to be allowed here and we will bring you to justice."

St. Paul police say a person of interest was taken into custody around 9:45 p.m. Monday.

Shooting investigation

Henry said the alleged suspect in the incident is known to police. They conducted at least one search warrant at a separate location, but it didn't result in any evidence.

Police are investigating any possible connections between the suspect and victims. The incident remains under investigation. Authorities haven't said what led up to the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call (651) 266-5650. Authorities say these are the ninth, 10th and 11th homicides of 2026 in Saint Paul.

St. Paul man involved in fatal Frogtown shooting 2 years after release from prison: charges

A man faces murder charges after a deadly shooting outside a Frogtown apartment building that left one person dead and two people injured over the weekend.

Frogtown shooting

Officers responded to reports of 20 gunshots near Edmund Avenue and Kent Street around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 18. When they arrived, they found a crowd performing CPR on Da’Voncea L. Griffo, who had severe injuries to his face and head. Officers took over CPR until medics arrived and say they also faced difficulties controlling the crowd.

Griffo was pronounced dead in an ambulance at 4:38 a.m. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined he died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the death a homicide.

A 27-year-old woman, identified as MM, arrived at Regions Hospital that morning with a gunshot wound to her upper leg. She told police she was at an after-party when the shooting happened. Burke-Harris also showed up at the hospital in a dark Kia with a gunshot wound to his upper thigh. According to police, a bystander drove him there at the crowd’s request.

According to the complaint, a witness heard someone say, "Not here. Not here, bro," before the shooting started.

Investigators recovered 26 spent shell casings of three different calibers at the scene, with several found in the doorway and sidewalk near 565 Kent Street. Surveillance video reportedly shows Burke-Harris, first in a red hat and white t-shirt, walking to a car, discarding his hat, and putting on a cream-colored hooded sweatshirt. According to the complaint, video allegedly captures him returning to the building entrance, pointing at Griffo, and firing five shots as Griffo backed away.

Police say Burke-Harris admitted to being the man in the red hat and white shirt but denied being the shooter in the hooded sweatshirt. He told investigators his legs went numb after he was shot and that he fell to the ground without seeing who shot him.

Griffo’s stepmother spoke to police at the hospital and said family members witnessed Burke-Harris shoot Griffo.

Shooting after prison release

Burke-Harris was released from prison on July 18, 2024, after serving 14 years for a previous second-degree murder conviction. Exactly two years later, on July 18, 2026, the fatal shooting occurred.

On Monday, July 20, prosecutors charged Burke-Harris with second-degree intentional murder. The complaint states Burke-Harris has a previous conviction for a 2010 case for a deadly shooting. Police say he told investigators he had changed his lifestyle after prison and was not involved in violence or "gun games."

The shooting took place exactly two years after Burke-Harris’s release from prison for the previous murder conviction.

Two mass shootings rock Minneapolis in 20 hours, 14 hurt and 1 dead

A violent Sunday in Minneapolis left fourteen people wounded and one man dead after two mass shootings just hours and blocks apart.

Police investigate two shootings less than two miles apart

Police say the first shooting happened just after midnight near the Reign nightclub, where a crowd had gathered for a meet-and-greet with a reality TV star. La’Nay Wright, a witness, said, "And after that, all you hear was it was ‘scuuuuur.’ It sounded like somebody hit somebody and that's when the gunshots rang out." She described hearing at least ten gunshots and running for safety along with others.

Interim Chief Bill Peterson of the Minneapolis Police Department said off-duty officers got there in about a minute and reinforcements were nearby, "We did have officers that were stationed in the area. We did have members of our chief's beat that were down there." Seven men and two women, all between the ages of 18 and 27, were shot in this incident.

Later that night, another shooting took place about 1.7 miles away in the Stevens Square area. Five men were shot, and one of them died. A corner store owner tells FOX 9 he got five holes in his window from gunfire and two of the victims were employees who stepped outside to smoke just before the gunfire.

Gun safety advocates highlight the lasting impact of mass shootings. Timberlyn Mazeikis, a gun violence survivor, said, "it's not something that we can simply outrun or forget about or push aside or just accept as a fact of life." La’Nay Wright added, "I'm praying for everyone, even for myself, because I am still shaking after this."

Police are confident they will catch the shooters, noting that there are many surveillance cameras at both shooting locations, which could provide valuable evidence.

A history of violence near Reign nightclub

This is not the first time violence has struck near the Reign nightclub. Police say that six years ago, there was another mass shooting about a block away from the club, where 11 people were shot. There have not been any confirmed arrests in that earlier case.

The shootings have left the community shaken, with victims, including bystanders and employees, simply stepping outside for a break. The events have renewed concerns about safety in the area and the broader impact of gun violence on Minneapolis residents.

Police say they do not know of any connection between the two shootings at this time. It is also unclear if any suspects have been identified or arrested in either case. The investigation is ongoing, and more details may emerge as police review surveillance footage and interview witnesses.

Helix Apartments fire: Red Cross shelter open for displaced St. Louis Park residents

A major fire at Helix Apartments has left dozens of families displaced and sparked a large community response.

Fire damages Helix Apartments, displaces residents

Firefighters from St. Louis Park and several metro agencies responded to a fire at Helix Apartments in the 7500 block of Hwy. 7 at 4:47 p.m. on Friday, July 17.

About 90 units on the west side of the complex were destroyed, while the east side had only light smoke damage. By July 18, the east side of the building was returned to property management, who will work with residents on when they can move back in.

The entire complex was back under property management’s control by July 19. The American Red Cross opened a shelter for displaced residents at St. Louis Park Middle School, providing a safe place to stay and meals. Social workers are also available on site to help residents recover from the fire. The St. Louis Park Emergency Program (STEP) is offering supplies such as clothes, food, hygiene products and baby items.

Community members can donate to STEP online to help families with food, clothes, gas gift cards and diapers. The city thanked partner agencies and the community for their quick and generous support in gathering supplies and caring for residents.

The city’s next steps

The city will work with property management as they clear the site, help residents return to safe parts of the building and consider rebuilding the damaged section. They’ll also help coordinate resources with the property owner, insurers, relief organizations and other service providers.

Residents who need shelter should go to Door 6 on the northwest corner of St. Louis Park Middle School at 2025 Texas Ave. S. Shelter, meals and support services are available for those affected. The fire investigation is ongoing, and property management will keep residents updated on when they can return to their homes.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and there’s no timeline yet for when all residents can return to their units.

A member of the Lows gang has admitted to a violent racketeering conspiracy, marking another step in a major federal case targeting Minneapolis gang activity.

Douglas pleads guilty to RICO conspiracy in federal court

Damari "Mari" Douglas, 21, of Elk River, pleaded guilty Friday, July 17, to his role in a racketeering conspiracy involving the Lows gang, according to U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen. Douglas is the second of 14 charged members to plead guilty in the case. Douglas admitted to several violent acts as part of the conspiracy, including voluntary manslaughter.

On Dec. 3, 2023, after leaving a party near West Lake Street and Grand Avenue South, Douglas fired a handgun at a passing SUV, believing it posed a threat. One of his bullets struck and killed a member of his own group. Douglas also arranged for a straw purchaser to buy at least nine firearms between December 2023 and February 2024, since he was prohibited from owning guns due to a prior felony conviction.

On April 19, 2024, law enforcement searched Douglas’s home and saw him throw a Glock pistol with an automatic conversion device out his bedroom window. Officers recovered the Glock, another pistol and ammunition. This charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Douglas pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, with sentencing to be scheduled later.

The Lows gang has operated in north Minneapolis since around 2004, engaging in murder, attempted murder, drug sales, robbery, carjacking and firearms trafficking. The gang has used intimidation, threats, armed retaliation and social media taunting to maintain its territory and reputation.

Coordinated investigation is making progress

"Damari Douglas committed serious acts of violence and firearms trafficking as part of the Lows gang’s criminal enterprise," said United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen in a news release. "Douglas contributed directly to the violence that has harmed families and communities in Minneapolis through arranging the illegal selling and purchasing of firearms, possessing a machine gun, and firing the shot that killed a victim. Today’s guilty plea reflects my office’s ongoing commitment to hold every member of this enterprise accountable and to take down the violent network that has operated in our city for years."

Federal officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration, IRS Criminal Investigation, and Homeland Security Investigations also praised the teamwork among agencies and called the plea a step toward ending the gang’s violence in Minneapolis. Law enforcement officials say the Lows gang has spread fear in Minneapolis for more than 20 years, and they remain committed to holding every member accountable.

Sentencing for Douglas has not yet been scheduled, and the outcomes for the 12 remaining defendants have not been determined.

Twin Cities gas prices rise to $3.93/gallon, could hit $4 within days

Gas prices are climbing again in the Twin Cities, and drivers are feeling the pinch at the pump.

Twin Cities gas prices rise sharply

According to GasBuddy's survey of 1,106 stations, the average price for gasoline in the Twin Cities is now $3.93 per gallon, up 6.8 cents from last week. Prices are 18.3 cents higher than a month ago and 92.6 cents higher than this time last year.

The cheapest gas found in the Twin Cities was $3.49 a gallon, while the most expensive was $4.19, a difference of 70 cents. Statewide, prices ranged from $3.34 to $4.50 per gallon. Drivers in the region are seeing higher prices compared to last month and last year, and the difference between the cheapest and most expensive stations is significant.

The national average price for gasoline has risen 13 cents per gallon in the last week, now at $3.95. Diesel prices nationally have dropped 22.3 cents, averaging $5.08 per gallon. National averages are up 6.5 cents from last month and 85.7 cents from a year ago.

GasBuddy's data comes from over 11 million weekly price reports covering more than 150,000 stations across the country. Neighboring states are also seeing increases: Wisconsin is at $3.78 per gallon (up 12.2 cents), Sioux Falls is at $3.84 (up 22.7 cents), and the Minnesota statewide average is $3.87 (up 11.1 cents).

Historical prices show that gas is much more expensive than in previous years, with Twin Cities prices at $3 per gallon just last July.

Expert perspective on rising prices

"Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in nearly every state for the second straight week, with the national average price of gasoline likely to reach $4 per gallon within the next 48 hours and diesel already back above $5 per gallon nationally," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

De Haan said, "While the ongoing U.S.-Iran situation continues to weigh on markets, the story is increasingly less about crude oil and more about global refining capacity — the Strait of Hormuz remains closed while continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries further squeeze an already strained supply picture. With WTI crude approaching $85 per barrel in Sunday night trading, price-cycling markets are likely to see another jolt higher in the coming days, and motorists should brace for a rougher stretch ahead."

Gas prices have fluctuated over the past five years, but the current spike stands out. On July 20, 2025, the Twin Cities average was $3 per gallon, compared to $3.93 today. The U.S. average last year was $3.09, now up to $3.95. The combination of global events, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on Russian refineries, is making it harder for refineries to keep up with demand, which is driving up prices across the board.

It’s unclear how long the current price increases will last or if prices will stabilize soon. The impact of ongoing global events on future gas prices remains uncertain.

Minnesota weather: Twin Cities sees 10 straight days of at least 90 degrees

Monday was the 10th consecutive day with a high of at least 90 degrees in the Twin Cities—the longest streak of 90-degree days in over 70 years.

10 straight days of 90 degrees or higher

The Twin Cities hit 90 degrees again on Monday for the 10th day in a row. It is the longest streak of 90-degree days since 1948.

The National Weather Service recorded 90 degrees at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.

The longest streak of 90-degree days in the Twin Cities was in July 1936 when there were 14 consecutive days with highs of 90 or higher. In 1948, there were 11 straight days when it hit at least 90 degrees.

Extended Minnesota weather forecast

Tuesday will bring a noticeable change, with much cooler temperatures and less humidity. Highs reach the 70s and lower 80s for most of the state, while parts of far northern Minnesota remain in the 60s under a light north breeze and occasional passing clouds.

Sunshine returns Wednesday with highs around 80 degrees. Temperatures warm into the middle 80s Thursday and Friday before another round of 90-degree heat arrives next weekend.

Here's a look at the seven-day forecast:

Minnesota Lottery record: $34.12M Lotto America jackpot won at Coon Rapids store

One Minnesota Lottery player is waking up a multimillionaire after winning the largest Lotto America jackpot in state history.

Historic jackpot win for Minnesota

A ticket sold for the July 18 Lotto America drawing hit the $34.12 million annuitized jackpot, or the winner can choose a $15.15 million cash option. This is the biggest Lotto America jackpot ever won in Minnesota, and the first jackpot win for the game in the state this year.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Holiday Station store in Coon Rapids. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the jackpot ticket.

"This is an exciting and historic moment for Minnesota Lottery players," said Adam Prock, Minnesota Lottery Executive Director. "A jackpot win of this magnitude creates excitement across the state and highlights the fun that comes with playing the Lottery. We’re thrilled to celebrate this incredible win while continuing to generate proceeds that benefit Minnesotans."

The July 18 drawing was also notable because another Minnesota player won a $20,000 prize by matching the first five numbers. Prizes were awarded at every prize level, making it the first time in state history that all nine Lotto America prize tiers paid out in a single drawing.

Players across Minnesota are encouraged to check their tickets, as prizes were claimed at every level.

How to claim your prize

Minnesota Lottery prizes above $50,000 must be claimed in person at the Minnesota Lottery headquarters in Roseville. Prizes of $50,000 and below can be claimed by mail or at any regional office. Winners are encouraged to call ahead to confirm hours and make an appointment. Prize claims must be submitted within one year of the drawing date. Missing the deadline means forfeiting the prize.

The Minnesota Lottery continues to generate proceeds that benefit state programs and services, making every ticket purchase impactful for the community.

The identity of the jackpot winner has not been announced, and it is not yet known if the winner will choose the annuity or cash option.

Minnesota weather: Storms exit early before hot sunshine returns Monday

Morning thunderstorms will move out of Minnesota Monday before hot sunshine takes over, though another round of storms could develop later in the day as a cold front approaches.

Monday’s forecast in Minnesota

Monday begins with thunderstorms across central and southern Minnesota, along with some lingering wildfire smoke, though southwest winds will quickly push the remaining smoke east.

The Twin Cities metro turns mostly sunny after the morning storms, with a daytime high around 93 degrees. A heat advisory is in effect for the metro from noon until 6 p.m. as heat index values approach the upper 90s.

Storm chances on Monday

A cold front moving across Minnesota could trigger isolated to scattered thunderstorms Monday afternoon.

The Twin Cities remains under a Level 1 marginal risk for severe weather, while southeastern Minnesota is under a Level 2 slight to Level 3 enhanced risk.

The best chance for storms is noon to 4 p.m. in the Twin Cities and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. across the broader FOX 9 viewing area. If storms develop, wind gusts over 60 mph, hail up to 2 inches in diameter, torrential rainfall and isolated tornadoes are possible.

Extended Minnesota weather forecast

Tuesday brings a noticeable change, with much cooler temperatures and less humidity.
MnDOT to test speed cameras at construction sites

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will soon begin testing speed cameras at two construction work sites.

MnDOT testing speed camera program

MnDOT officials say they will launch a one-month pilot test of speed cameras at two construction work zones in the state.

During this test period, MnDOT will only issue warnings – no tickets will be issued.

Warnings would be issued for vehicles traveling more than 10 miles over the speed limit.

The cameras will go up at the worksite on I-35W in Burnsville just north of the split and along Highway 65 between Cambridge and Braham.

The cameras will actually function for about 44 days, but warnings will only be sent for about 30 days.

Drivers will see signs alerting them of the cameras as they enter the zones. If they are speeding, warnings will be mailed to the registered owners of the vehicles.

Why are they doing it?

Officials say over the past five years there have been 11,000 crashes in Minnesota work zones. Twenty-two people have died, and 609 people were injured due to speed-related work zone crashes, officials said.

During Monday's news conference, a worker who had survived a work zone crash shared his story.

"The sound of crunching plastic can instantly take me back to the moment of impact," said worker Nick Hale. "For those of us who work on the highway, the road is our office. When you approach or enter a work zone, please slow down, read and follow the signs. Move over whenever possible and put away distractions and stay focused. Those simple actions can save lives."

When could MnDOT start issuing tickets?

MnDOT did not give a firm timeline of when they might switch to issuing actual tickets, but officials said they did not expect that to happen this summer. After testing the cameras, they will evaluate how to move forward.

The cameras do operate independent of law enforcement and if a trooper were to catch you speeding, you'd obviously still be subject to a ticket.

Drivers are encouraged to provide feedback on the cameras. You can do so by sending emails to safetycameras.dot@state.mn.us or filling out an online form.

Officials said the test program will cost the state about $800,000 during testing.

2nd Minneapolis mass shooting in 24 hours leaves 1 dead, 4 injured

Minneapolis police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and four others injured Sunday evening, just hours after a separate shooting outside the Reign Event Center wounded nine people.

Deadly shooting on Nicollet Avenue

Minneapolis police said officers responded around 8:20 p.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting in the 1800 block of Nicollet Avenue and found four injured men at the scene.

A 28-year-old man with potentially life-threatening injuries was transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died. A 24-year-old man with potentially life-threatening injuries was also taken to Hennepin Healthcare, along with a 43-year-old man with apparent non-life-threatening injuries.

A 36-year-old man with apparent non-life-threatening injuries was transported to North Memorial Health. A 26-year-old man later walked into Hennepin Healthcare with an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Preliminary information indicates gunfire erupted outside a business along Nicollet Avenue, striking the five men. Officers secured the area while Minneapolis police crime scene investigators collected evidence from the scene.

Investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting. So far no arrests have been made.

No connection to Reign Event Center mass shooting

Police say there is no known connection between the Nicollet Avenue shooting and the earlier mass shooting outside the Reign Event Center in the 2900 block of Hennepin Avenue South.

In that shooting, officers responded and found nine people, seven men and two women between the ages of 18 and 27, suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators said the shooting followed an altercation, and they are investigating whether someone fired from a vehicle.

Two men remain in life-threatening condition in that case. No arrests have been made.

"Our state BCA investigators are working closely with local authorities to make sure all those responsible are brought to justice," Gov. Tim Walz said in a statement Monday. "My thoughts are with all of the victims of this senseless gun violence and their families."

Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to contact Minneapolis police by emailing policetips@minneapolismn.gov or calling 612-673-5845. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through CrimeStoppers.

Reign Event Center mass shooting: Witness says she was 3 feet from gunfire

A night out in Minneapolis turned chaotic when gunfire erupted outside a downtown nightclub, leaving nine people wounded.

Mass shooting outside Reign Event Center

Officers arrived at the Reign Event Center on Hennepin Avenue around 12:30 a.m. and quickly called for backup after discovering multiple people had been shot. The victims are seven men and two women, all between 18 and 27 years old. According to police, the shooting began after an altercation, and investigators are looking into whether someone may have fired from a vehicle.

Police say two men are in life-threatening condition. No arrests have been made as of Sunday night, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact them.

A witness describes the chaos and fear

"Once they ringed out that second, third, fourth, fifth time, yeah, it's it's time to go," said La'Nay Wright, who was standing in line outside the club celebrating her birthday when the shooting started. "No soon as they walk off, everything just it went down hill from there," said Wright.

Wright described hearing about ten gunshots and running for cover with several other women. "One ranged out, and then we heard like two-three more come behind, and then we like heard five more come behind. We running in different directions. You got people running upstairs. You got people running this way. People running in the street," said Wright.

Wright said she tried to help others get to safety. "It’s like five more girls where I was, I'm trying to carry them to the alley while I'm trying to carry myself to the alley because I don't know where these shots are coming from," said Wright. She added, "I've been crying since I got home because, like, I could have been one of the people that got hit, and I got kids."

Mayor calls for action, community support

In a statement, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said, "This is a stark reminder that keeping our streets safe requires every tool available. We need partnerships where the perpetrators of these acts are arrested and prosecuted, we need to continue hiring more police officers to both investigate and prevent gun crimes..."

The mayor’s comments highlight the ongoing concern about gun violence in the city and the need for community involvement and law enforcement support to address it.

Wright said after her experience, she will think twice about going out at night.

Police have not released information on any suspects, and it is still unclear who fired the shots or what exactly led to the altercation. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Founder of Untiedt's Vegetable Farm remembered for life rooted in generosity

Family and friends are honoring a Minnesota farming icon. Jerry Untiedt’s legacy is rooted in much more than the fresh produce his farm provided.

Rooted in love, family

Jerry was a Twin Cities native. Jerry and his wife, Sue, decided to move near Waverly in the 1970s and founded Untiedt’s Vegetable Farm.

As his family grew to include four daughters, so did the farm, and the community he had cultivated over the years.

Jerry’s family says he passed away on July 6 at 77-years-old from heart complications. He lived a life rooted in family and generosity.

Many Minnesotans might not have had the chance to meet Jerry, but you have probably eaten something from Untiedt's Vegetable Farm, maybe without realizing it. The farm supplies the Minnesota State Fair’s Corn Roast, farm stands across the Twin Cities and grocery stores.

Untiedt's legacy

As loved ones and the community honor his legacy, they remember his advocacy and passion.

"The workers and making sure they were treated well, but that they were able to come here and work, and that was something he spent a lot of time on, both in St. Paul and Washington D.C. Jerry was well known by our state’s politicians," said Thom Petersen, MN State Commissioner of Agriculture.

"We’ll probably continue learning the lessons he didn’t get to teach us while he was here," said Jenna Untiedt, Jerry’s daughter and Retail Operations Manager at Untiedt's Vegetable Farm. "Inspire the next generation because so many family farms are disappearing. He wants them to continue. He wants people to know and understand where their food is coming from, and so that was instilled in all of us, and we work hard to keep that alive."

"He wanted to produce a quality product and if he had a little extra, make sure we’re helping other people out," said Paul Nelson, Jerry’s son-in-law, and Head Grower at Untiedt's Vegetable Farm.

"Jerry took more pride in quality. Meet him in the cornfield, he wanted to show you the tons. For a lot of people, they try to hide their secrets. He enjoyed showing it," said Brad Ribar, owner of the Corn Roast at the Minnesota State Fair.

"From time, resources, money, just an incredibly generous man," said Max Maddaus, Director of Perishable Operations, Kowalski's Markets. "He was happy to do you a favor, do your business a favor, do your family a favor. Something he thrived on, being able to help people. My kids still, their favorite thing to do in the summer is to go out to Jerry’s farm. I’d always call Jerry and ask if we could come out and of course, always yes."

"You couldn’t find a more kind person than him. He’ll be missed for sure," said Brad Chmielewski, Stoney Brook Farms.

Pelican Lake plane flip: Aircraft overturns on landing, all aboard walk away

A plane flipped upside down during a water landing at Pelican Lake, but everyone made it out safely thanks to a quick response from first responders.

Plane flips over on Pelican Lake

Deputies and first responders were called to Pelican Lake around 10:30 a.m. after a Seabee-style aircraft overturned during a water landing. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office says they believe the landing gear may have been deployed at the wrong time, which caused the plane to flip upside down on the water.

Everyone on board was able to walk away without any injuries, making for a positive outcome after what could have been a much more serious situation. The response from local first responders was praised for being fast and effective, helping ensure everyone’s safety at the scene.

Community praises first responders for quick action

This incident highlights the importance of having well-trained first responders ready to handle emergencies on the water and in the air. The community expressed gratitude, saying, "We have some great first responders who are always there to support our mission!" A scary situation turned out well, thanks to the coordinated efforts of emergency crews who arrived quickly and worked together to keep everyone safe."

Authorities have not released details about how many people were on board or the extent of any damage to the plane.

Anthony Edwards: LeBron James doesn’t have Timberwolves in top three

LeBron James is still a free agent and has not announced which team he is signing with, but Minnesota Timberwolves’ star Anthony Edwards may have inadvertently leaked an update over the weekend.

Anthony Edwards: ‘I have nothing to say about it’

Edwards was with ESPN reporter Kevin Neghandi and appeared in a social media video as the two were walking. Edwards is asked what he thought of James having the Timberwolves as one of the teams he is interested in.

The Timberwolves in a group that includes the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers that could be James’ next landing spot, and perhaps his last. Edwards said he has seen James’s top-three, and the Timberwolves are not in it.

"I have nothing to say about it because I’ve seen his top-three teams. We’re not in it, so yeah," Edwards said.

Edwards, LaMelo Ball and Alex Rodriguez have reportedly reached out to James’s camp to express interest in bringing him to Minnesota.

LeBron James’s fit in Minnesota

James spent eight seasons with the L.A. Lakers, and he would give the Timberwolves another star to add to a super team. He would start at power forward after the departures of Julius Randle and Naz Reid as part of the package that brought Ball to Minnesota. He’s close with Anthony Edwards through USA Basketball, and is looking to end his career with a championship.

The Timberwolves have made the Western Conference Playoffs five straight years, reaching the conference finals twice and the second round this past season.

Timberwolves' pitch to LeBron

Timberwolves' front office head Tim Connelly spoke at Ball's news conference last week at Target Center, and all but confirmed Minnesota made its pitch to James to come to the Timberwolves.

"I don’t know, I feel like the recruitment is this team. Obviously he’s an unbelievable player, whatever decision he makes is going to be the right one. There’s a lot going on, when you’re as great as he is, there should be optionality," Connelly said. "This is a place you’re going to have a lot of fun, you’re going to win a lot of games, we’re trying to change the narrative of how this organization is viewed. Wherever LeBron ends up is going to make that place much, much better."

Minneapolis mass shooting: 9 hurt outside Reign nightclub

Minneapolis police say nine people were hurt in a shootout outside Reign nightclub early Sunday morning in Minneapolis.

Reign nightclub shooting

Minneapolis police responded around 12:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting that had left multiple people injured at Reign Event Center on Hennepin Avenue in Uptown.

Police said they got to the scene in less than one minute, and quickly called for backup because of the large crowd and the number of people hurt.

At the scene, officers say they learned nine victims had been injured in a shootout at the nightclub.

The victims included seven men and two women, all between the ages of 18 and 27. Four were found at the scene while the rest later showed up at local hospitals for treatment. Police said at a Sunday afternoon news conference that two of the men wounded suffered life-threatening injuries, but are expected to survive.

"Last night’s shooting in Uptown is unacceptable," said Todd Barnett, Community Safety Commissioner with the Minneapolis Police Department.

"Early this morning, Minneapolis experienced another senseless act of gun violence. This was a brazen act of violence in a crowded entertainment district where innocent people were placed at tremendous risk. That is absolutely unacceptable. This incident is an unthinkable, disgusting and cowardly act," said Bill Peterson, interim police chief.

Investigation underway

Police believe the shooting started outside the event center after an "altercation." Investigators are also looking into whether someone may have fired from a vehicle.

The city's Firearm Assault Shoot Team is leading the investigation. No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning.

Police are investigating the shooting and asking anyone with information to come forward. In that shooting, 11 people were injured when multiple people opened fire on the block. The shooting left multiple businesses with shattered windows and casing scattered along the street.

Past reporting did not indicate a connection to Reign nightclub for that shooting.

Statement from Mayor Frey

In a statement on Sunday, Mayor Frey said:

"The shooting in Uptown last night is intolerable, and we will be working to hold the perpetrators accountable for this senseless act of violence.

"This is a stark reminder that keeping our streets safe requires every tool available. We need partnerships where the perpetrators of these acts are arrested and prosecuted, we need to continue hiring more police officers to both investigate and prevent gun crimes, and we must embrace proven technologies from drones to ShotSpotter that allow our police to do their jobs with greater efficiency.

"I’m grateful for the work of our police officers that immediately responded and are working towards arrests."

Mike Lindell on Trump endorsement: 'It came as a complete surprise'

Gubernatorial candidate and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell joined FOX 9 Morning News on Sunday to discuss getting President Trump's endorsement this past week.

Trump endorses Lindell

In a message posted to TruthSocial on Thursday, the president wrote in part: "Nobody has sacrificed more than Mike Lindell in fighting for our country, especially when it comes to Election Integrity. He truly deserves everything he gets - He will MAKE MINNESOTA GREAT AGAIN!!! MIKE LINDELL HAS MY COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT - HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN."

The endorsement wasn't a huge surprise as Lindell has been one of President Trump's most loyal supporters over the years. But it's an endorsement that's likely to give Lindell an edge as early voting is underway in the Republican primary.

Lindell speaks with FOX 9

Lindell joined FOX 9 on Sunday to discuss the Trump endorsement and his gubernatorial campaign.

Lindell on the endorsement

Mike Lindell: "Back on December 8th, when I decided I was going to run… my wife was the only one that knew. I called the president and I told him I was going to run for governor of Minnesota. And I didn't ask him for his endorsement, I wanted it based on merit, not on friendship. So it came, he's watched my campaign so far, and it came as a complete surprise. I was getting texts in the morning and I've been so honored to get it based on how our campaign is going. I've been polling in the last five polls statewide, I've done polling number one, and I think he might've watched that. And I have talked to him since then, since the endorsement and thanked him. That's all I did. I said, thank you so much for believing in me and for that I'm going to get the job done and help Minnesota become affordable again."

Budget plan coming soon

Mike Lindell: "The main thing I'm running on in Minnesota is to make it affordable again. I've got great plans, I'm going to be putting out my budget in less than three weeks now. And everyone's going to see as I put out the marketing for what I'm going do and for my budget. I think people are going to be very surprised. We have common sense solutions to our problems in Minnesota."

Not afraid of bipartisan policy

Mike Lindell: "It's hard to believe what you're hearing out there with this poll and this poll… I moved up [to] 30 points in the polls… I think it shows I'm not just everything… that the president's endorsement is great. But when people see my budget – I actually was on another station, I won't name one of your competitors – and I told them about one of my programs that I'm that I am going to put out with the illegal immigrants. She said, ‘Well the Republicans and the president might not like that,’ and I said it doesn't matter to me. This is for the people, it's help for all the people in Minnesota. This isn't a party thing."

MN wildfires: DNR issuing new burning restrictions in northern MN

The Minnesota DNR is issuing new enhanced burning restrictions across northern Minnesota as wildfires continue to rage and conditions remain dry.

Class IV burning restrictions begin Monday

The DNR is activating Class IV burning restrictions in Cook, Koochiching, Lake and northern St. Louis counties, and also including the portions of the George Washington State Forest and Scenic State Park that extend into Itasca County. These rules apply to non-Tribal lands in these areas.

The restrictions mean campfires, recreational fires, and prescribed burning on private property are completely prohibited. The DNR will not issue burning permits, except for special exceptions by agencies with suppression responsibilities.

Anyone planning to use welding equipment, acetylene torches, or other open-flame devices near combustible vegetation will need a special permit. Fireworks are banned outside of cities, though local governments can make their own decisions for use within city limits.

Charcoal fires are only allowed in designated grills at occupied homes, cabins, and resorts. Gas or propane camp stoves are still permitted in the backcountry and at campsites.

The U.S. Forest Service has also put full campfire restrictions in place for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and the Superior National Forest within these counties. Bear Head Lake State Park and Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park are under full campfire bans.

The burning ban aligns with restrictions put in place by the Bois Forte and Grand Portage Tribal nations.

Firefighting efforts continue

Officials say the forecast calls for "erratic" weather, with shifting winds, isolated damaging wind gusts, and thunderstorms that will make the wildfires more difficult to fight. On top of that, little precipitation and high temperatures will keep the fire danger high in coming days.

They come as more than a dozen wildfires are burning across northern Minnesota and the Superior National Forest. Officials said over the weekend they had made some progress in the fight and were able to bring some containment to a couple of the fires. Other fires didn't grow in size and one fire – the Chub fire, actually shrank as officials were able to map it better using infrared radar.

Mike Warnke, DNR wildfire administration supervisor, said the restrictions are meant to prevent wildfires during this period of increased risk.

The restrictions will remain in effect until the DNR commissioner lifts them once conditions improve.

The enhanced restrictions will take effect starting at noon on Monday and will remain in effect until further notice. The DNR is urging everyone in the affected areas to follow the restrictions closely and help prevent wildfires.

MN air quality alert expanded on Sunday as wildfire smoke pushes further west

An air quality alert in effect in Minnesota has been expected as wildfire smoke pushes further west, now covering all of the Twin Cities metro.

Air quality alert expanded

The revised alert took effect starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday covers two zones of eastern Minnesota.

One zone in northeastern Minnesota covers areas including Hibbing, Duluth, Ely, and the Arrowhead region. The other zone stretches from St. Cloud to the southeast corner of the state and covers the Twin Cities metro, Mankato, Rochester, and Albert Lea.

The alert for northeastern Minnesota expires at 7 p.m. on Sunday. The alert for southeastern Minnesota expires at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Officials say conditions could improve slightly during the day on Sunday in the metro, more smoke is expected to move in during the evening hours. The smoke won't relent until winds begin to shift Monday morning.

In northern Minnesota, they will see relief a little sooner as southwestern winds begin to clear smoke during the afternoon on Sunday, improving air quality for many during the afternoon hours.

Unhealthy air levels

Air quality levels in the alert areas are expected to reach "red" levels or unhealthy. That means the air is unhealthy for everyone and anyone can begin to notice the effects, like irritated eyes, nose, and throat, coughing, chest tightness, or shortness of breath. Sensitive groups or more exposed individuals may experience more serious effects, including the worsening of existing heart or lung disease, and respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

Officials recommend you reduce your time outside, take more breaks when outside, and avoid any intense activities to reduce exposure.

MN weather: Heat continues on Sunday, storms possible

Rinse and repeat: The heat is expected to continue on Sunday in the Twin Cities, but there is a storm risk statewide, especially in northwestern Minnesota where there is a Level 2 threat.

Heat wave continues

Another 90-degree day is expected on Sunday for the Twin Cities. Saturday marked the eighth consecutive 90 degree day for the metro as the heat wave marched on.

Monday is also expected to reach the low to mid 90s before the heat could break on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Storms possible

Some spots could see some storms on Sunday. There is a Level 2 risk in northwestern Minnesota and a Level 1 risk, or marginal risk, for storms across the state.

On Monday, the risk shifts eastward, and the metro is in the Level 2 zone and parts of western Wisconsin are in a Level 3 threat.

Air quality alert

An air quality alert remains in effect for parts of the Twin Cities metro and southeast Minnesota until Monday afternoon. An alert in effect for northeast Minnesota, including Duluth, Hibbing, and the Arrowhead region, is set to expire Sunday evening.

Shifting winds will help clear wildfire smoke from the fires burning in northern Minnesota and Canada.

Helix Apartments fire: Family of 5 displaced, son turns 7 Sunday after losing their home

Families displaced by the Helix Apartments fire are working to rebuild after losing nearly everything.

Families focus on safety and recovery after major apartment fire

Firefighters banged on doors, urging residents to evacuate as smoke and flames quickly spread through the building.

"There were firefighters banging on the door, saying 'Get out, get out! This is a real fire,'" said Yuri Samuel.

Samuel and his family escaped their apartment, which was just doors away from where he believes the fire started.

"Ran down, got outside, and by the time was outside, it looked up, and it was a huge like billows of smoke," said Samuel. He was treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Officials estimate about 90 apartments on the west side of the building were destroyed.

Samuel said, "It looks like it started in 475, possibly, but maybe on this side a little bit more, and we're in 373, so very close to the house, and we just saw it kind of going up in flames there."

Many families escaped with little more than the clothes on their backs and now face an uncertain future while investigators work to determine what caused the fire.

Families are trying to focus on the basics, including celebrating special moments

"I think that we're just like still in shock, and it just feels like a bad dream that like we're gonna wake up from," said Jourdan Coliman. "We're just trying to focus on the essentials today."

Despite losing their home, the family is determined to keep some normalcy for their children.

"It's our middle son's birthday tomorrow, so we're just trying to like make this the best that we can," said Coliman.

Avon turns seven on Sunday. His dad had planned a special surprise.

"But his big plan, which he doesn't even know what it is yet, close your ears, buddy. We were taking him canoeing. That is definitely going to be something that we like put off, and we'll have a makeup birthday party for sure," said Samuel.

Volunteers have set up a mutual aid station outside the complex, providing food, water and clothing for those affected. The family told FOX 9 they have been overwhelmed by the support received over the last 24 hours.

Volunteers say they are still looking for donations to help cover hotel stays, as well as Uber and Lyft rides for displaced residents.

The American Red Cross has established a temporary shelter for displaced residents at St. Louis Park Middle School and

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and it is unclear how long it will take for families to find permanent housing.

Helix Apartments fire: 90 units destroyed as St. Louis Park monitors for rekindling

Fire crews are still monitoring the Helix Apartments in St. Louis Park after a major fire destroyed dozens of homes, with the cause of the fire still undetermined.

Fire department continues to monitor for safety

The St. Louis Park Fire Department is keeping a close watch on the Helix Apartments for any signs of the fire starting up again.

The fire destroyed about 90 units on the west side of the building. Units on the east side only had light smoke damage and have been returned to the property management company, which will let residents know when they can move back in.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Property management is reaching out to residents by text and email, and anyone needing support should respond to those messages to get connected with resources.

According to St. Louis Park city officials, around 4:45 p.m. Friday evening, firefighters responded to reports of smoke at the Helix Apartments.

At the scene, fire crews found a large blaze. Officials say the fire may have started on a third-floor balcony, but they have not officially confirmed that.

One person was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and two firefighters were treated on scene for heat-related injuries.

How the community can help

The St. Louis Park Emergency Program (STEP) is providing resources for displaced residents, including food, clothes, gas gift cards and diapers.

To support those in need, visit www.stepslp.org/donatefunds to make a monetary donation to STEP.

The city also reminds residents to be careful with independent fundraisers that may appear online in the coming days and weeks. Officials urge people to make sure any donation requests are legitimate before giving money.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and there is no specific timeline for when residents can re-enter the affected units.
