  • "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." When Nelson Mandela shared those words, he wasn't just talking about classrooms. He was talking about equity, opportunity, and community. As we approach #MandelaDay, we're reflecting on what it means to put those words into real action. At CodeYourFuture, education is about more than learning to code. It's about creating opportunity, building confidence, and opening doors that might otherwise remain closed. That mission connects our communities across both the UK and South Africa. This year, we've been especially inspired by our South African community. In April alone, South Africa accounted for 40% of all CodeYourFuture sign-ups worldwide and 38% of all course completers globally. Those numbers reflect far more than growth—they represent thousands of people choosing to invest in their futures and a community coming together to make that possible. Our latest Introduction to Digital (ITD) cohort demonstrated incredible commitment, resilience, and determination, supported by volunteers and mentors who generously shared their time and expertise. Their achievements are a reminder that when communities invest in people, lives change. Mandela Day also reminds us that "it's in our hands" to tackle inequality. You don't need a massive platform or endless time to make a difference, just a willingness to share what you already know. Whether you're in the UK, South Africa, or anywhere our community reaches, you can help build a more inclusive tech industry. We're always looking to grow our volunteer community in every region. If you have skills, experience, or even just a few hours to spare, join us in empowering the next generation of diverse tech talent. Together, we can create opportunities that last far beyond Mandela Day. Knowledge is meant to be shared. Let's build a more inclusive tech community, together. https://lnkd.in/eMGHEmcc #MandelaDay #TechForGood #Volunteering #CodeYourFuture #UK #SouthAfrica #DiversityInTech

  • If you've ever spent hours trying to find a missing semicolon, you already know the most important rule of coding: You can't fix everything all at once. You have to break the problem down. It's exactly the same when life gets busy or overwhelming. When a big goal feels too heavy to carry, try "debugging" your day: 🔶 Slow down. 🟩 Isolate the one small piece causing the block. 🟣 Fix that single part, then move to the next. Progress isn't measured by how fast you cross the finish line, it's measured by your willingness to try again. Take it one line at a time today. #CodeYourFuture #TipsTosucceed #WomenWhoCode #TechForGood

It’s been a year since I started my journey with CodeYourFuture , and looking back, I’m really grateful for everything I’ve learned and experienced along the way. When I joined CodeYourFuture , I thought I was signing up to learn how to code. Looking back, it turned out to be much more than that. It pushed me to think seriously about my future and gave me the support and confidence to keep moving forward. Throughout the journey, I never felt like I was doing it alone. There were weekly mentoring sessions, career support, and access to professional and senior engineers whenever I got stuck or needed advice. Knowing there was always someone willing to help made a huge difference, especially during the more challenging moments. CYF also gave me opportunities to step outside my comfort zone. I attended inspiring talks, conferences, and seminars that helped me see the tech industry from different perspectives and opened my eyes to possibilities I hadn’t considered before. The coding skills were important, of course, but the people are what stand out most when I look back. The encouragement from mentors, classmates, and volunteers helped me keep going when things felt difficult. By the end of the programme, I’d gained not only technical skills but also more confidence in myself and a better idea of where I want to go next.

  • "What if they ask me something I don't know?" It's one of the questions we hear most from our CodeYourFuture trainees before their first tech interview. And honestly? It's a fear almost everyone has, whether you're switching careers, returning to work, or applying for your very first role in tech. Here's the good news: A technical interview isn't about knowing everything. It's about showing how you think, how you approach problems, and how you learn. So if you're preparing for your first interview, here's what we'd love you to remember: 💬 Ask questions. If something isn't clear, say so. Great developers ask questions every day before they write code. Interviewers want to see your thinking, not silent guessing. 🚀 Own your journey. You don't need years of commercial experience to have valuable stories to tell. Talk about the projects you've built, the bugs you've wrestled with, the teammates you've collaborated with, and the moments where you kept going even when things got tough. 🌱 Treat every interview as practice. Not every interview leads to an offer, and that's okay. Every conversation makes you a stronger candidate for the next one. At CodeYourFuture, we've watched hundreds of aspiring developers grow into confident software engineers. It rarely happens because they know every answer. It happens because they kept showing up. To everyone preparing for interviews right now: we're rooting for you. ❤️ Now we'd love to hear from our community. Whether you're a software engineer, hiring manager, recruiter, or you've recently landed your first tech role... What's one piece of interview advice you wish someone had given you earlier? Share it below, you never know whose confidence you might boost today. 👇 #TechCareers #SoftwareEngineering #CareerChange #TechInterviews #WomenInTech #LearningToCode #CodeYourFuture #Hiring #Developers #TechCommunity

For the last five years, Codility has been a vital partner in helping our community grow. Technical assessments can be intimidating, but having access to these tools lets our trainees practice safely, build genuine confidence, and get feedback on their coding skills It’s partnerships like this that have helped over 170 people in our CodeYourFuture community step into great tech careers. A huge thank you to the Codility team, we’re so glad to have you with us as we look toward the next 170. 🤝 #TechForGood #CodeYourFuture #Codility

Having the right tools makes doing the job so much easier! I'm very grateful to Codility for supporting us at CodeYourFuture for the last 5 years! We use Codility to issue tech tests to our trainees. Sometimes we use them for our own assessment ("Are you ready for this next course?"), and sometimes we use them for practice ("Get ready to apply for real jobs - overcome your nerves doing a tech test with a timer"). The platform allows us to see how people are working - we can replay what they were typing when, see when they deleted everything and started again, and see what code they pasted rather than typed. There's a large library of existing assignments we can set, and we've also created some of our own. This kind of assessment and preparation is incredibly useful, and has helped us help more than 170 people get out of poverty and into great tech jobs over the last 5 years. Thanks so much to Codility for all of the support so far, and here's to getting the next 170 into jobs soon too!

Behind every number is a story of determination, resilience, and hard work. At CodeYourFuture, we believe that talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn't. That's why we provide free software development training and career support for people facing barriers to entering the tech industry. From complete beginners to learners building on existing skills, our programs are designed to help people gain the knowledge, confidence, and practical experience they need to launch a career in software development. A huge shout-out to everyone who is: 💙 Learning to code while working a full-time job. 💙 Studying while raising children or caring for loved ones. 💙 Learning in a language that isn't their first. 💙 Showing up every week despite life's challenges. We're looking forward to seeing even more of our trainees grow in confidence, build amazing projects, and take the next step towards a career in tech. Keep learning. Keep building. Keep believing in yourself. We're with you all the way. 💙 What goal are you hoping to achieve before the end of the year? • Learning to code can sometimes feel like you're falling behind. But progress isn't about how quickly you get there, it's about continuing to move forward. At CodeYourFuture, we've seen that success in tech isn't about finishing first. It's about building consistent habits that keep you moving forward. Here are three tips that make a difference: ✅ Show up consistently. Even 15 minutes of focused practice is progress. ✅ Focus on persistence, not perfection. Every developer gets stuck. Growth comes from debugging, learning, and trying again. ✅ Ask for help. You don't have to learn alone. Our trainees, volunteers, mentors, and graduates are all part of a community that supports each other. Every line of code you write, every question you ask, and every challenge you work through brings you one step closer to your goal. What's one small win you're celebrating this week? We'd love to hear it in the comments. #TipsToSucceed #CodeYourFuture
