Five days of learning, exchange, and collaboration in Bergamo. 🇮🇹 This week, we are taking part ElectLab, European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE)'s annual capacity-building and networking event, where practitioners from across the globe come together to share experiences, explore new ideas, and learn from one another. As a civic tech organisation, we are here to explore how technology for good can support and strengthen many of the topics we have been discussing this year: youth participation in democratic processes, shrinking civic space, organisational resilience, and trust in democracy. Beyond the sessions themselves, ElectLab is about sharing experiences, building connections, and bringing knowledge back to our organisations so that it can be applied and multiplied within our communities and networks. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to putting these ideas into practice through our work at Vote Monitor. #ElectLab

✨ On July 5, we had the pleasure of taking part in the Stream Festival, organized by the Romanian School of Eindhoven, where we brought together children's creativity and artificial intelligence in an interactive design workshop. Our colleague, Teodora Chiperi-Negru, guided participants through a creative design process, encouraging them to invent superheroes and original characters, define their personalities, missions, and the worlds they belong to. Using AI-powered tools, we then transformed these concepts into video game-style characters, much to the excitement of the children. The workshop was an opportunity to show that technology can be a tool for creation, not just consumption. Through play and experimentation, the children discovered how their ideas can come to life, and how design, storytelling, and AI can work together to turn imagination into engaging digital experiences. A big thank you to Vlad Niculescu-Dinca and Şcoala Românească Eindhoven / Romanian School Eindhoven for the invitation, and to all the children who amazed us with their imagination, curiosity, and the incredible characters they created. We are grateful to have been part of a day dedicated to learning, creativity, and community.

Sometimes, a single day is enough to erase everything you used to know about your life. The room you grew up in, the friends you surrounded yourself by, the plans you had for the future. For young people living in conflict zones, these are realities they face day by day. Air raid sirens, rocket and drone strikes, the ruins of destroyed buildings, insecurity and fear, have all become part of their daily lives. Because we wanted to support those who need it most, we have launched SAFE (Social Awareness for (war) Experiences). The platform brings together a toolkit designed to facilitate youth work, dialogue, and community learning in contexts shaped by war, displacement, or social change. This toolkit was developed by leading NGOs in youth work and trauma-informed education from six different countries for facilitators, educators, and anyone working with young people who are directly or indirectly affected by these realities. This week, we had the opportunity to take part in the EU Civic Tech Hackathon in Brussels, collaborating on digital solutions that can make democratic participation more accessible, inclusive, and impactful. Over two inspiring days, we exchanged ideas, built new connections, and explored how technology can help bring citizens closer to decision-making processes. We’re leaving Brussels with fresh perspectives, new partnerships, and plenty of inspiration for the work ahead.

This week in Helsinki, the Commit Global team participated in the EMBRACE Best Practice Sharing Conference, bringing together business and human rights experts, companies, authorities, civil society organizations, labour inspectors, law enforcement representatives, and rights-holders from across Europe. As part of the conference, we presented the prototype of a future digital reporting and referral management solution designed to support the identification, reporting, referral, and case management of labour trafficking and labour exploitation cases across multiple European countries. Developed within the EMBRACE project, the platform aims to strengthen cooperation between stakeholders, improve access to support services, and help ensure that cases are identified and addressed more effectively throughout complex labour supply chains. The discussions over the past days highlighted both the challenges and opportunities in combating labour trafficking in Europe. We are grateful for the valuable feedback received from experts and practitioners from Finland, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, and Poland, whose insights will help shape the next stages of development. Technology alone cannot solve labour exploitation. It has been a long and intense week in Yerevan (Armenia) for our team. But also a meaningful one. We were proud to support our long-term partner Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor (HCAV), who led a large-scale local election observation mission with up to 650 independent observers. Throughout election day, Vote Monitor was used as the main data collection tool, supporting both domestic and international observation efforts. As a part of HCAV’s mission, Vote Monitor was used by several international organisations, including the European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE), Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC), The International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED), EDDA - European Dialogue and Democracy Association, Asociația Promo-LEX (Moldova), and the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), who worked together with Armenian citizen observers during the parliamentary elections in Armenia on 7 June 2026. Over 40 international observers joined short-term observation teams alongside HCAV. This mission was supported by ProElect – Promote Accountability in Electoral Processes in the Eastern Partnership through Increased Participation and Capacity of Civic Actors – under the Grants for Cross-Border Networks in Electoral Monitoring and Observation Activities initiative, implemented by ERIM International From a technical perspective, this was one of the largest deployments of Vote Monitor to date. During election day alone, the platform processed over 10,000 form submissions, the second highest number after the 13,000 recorded during the 2024 Georgian parliamentary elections. In total, almost 95,000 questions were answered by 646 observers, covering 95.71% of polling stations across the country. In a parallel mission, we also supported Silba - Initiative for Dialogue and Democracy in collaboration with Armenian Progressive Youth in their joint local–international observation effort. Despite being a smaller mission with 47 observer groups, they were able to cover 298 polling stations and complete almost 19,000 questions through the platform. It is a privilege to work alongside local and international organisations committed to strengthening transparency and democratic processes in the South Caucasus region.

A few ”postcards” from the World Summit Awards… still remind us of the moment when Vote Monitor has won the Global Champion category. Shortly after that, our team was in Yerevan (Armenia), on our 39th election observation mission, a mission supported by 700 observers. Vote Monitor started with a simple idea: helping make election observation more efficient, transparent and accessible in Romania. It didn’t take long to realize we weren’t addressing something local to Romania alone, but a broader global challenge for election observation organizations. Since then, the platform has supported 98 NGOs across different countries and contexts, continuously evolving alongside the organizations and observers who use it. Standing on a stage in Vienna was certainly a proud moment. But what makes it meaningful is everything behind it: the election days, the long hours, the field teams, the partners, and 8500 observers who have been part of this story over the years. From supporting election observation missions on the ground to being recognized on a global stage, this has been an incredible journey. As we look ahead to our 40th election observation mission, we’re grateful for how far this has come and for everyone who has been part of it along the way.

A little sneak peek into our election preparations for this Sunday's nationwide observation mission with Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, which will be using Vote Monitor to support its election observation efforts across Armenia. After months of intensive preparation, polling stations have been configured, observers have been trained, and final checks are underway as we get ready for Election Day. This Sunday, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor will deploy more than 600 observers across the country. Through Vote Monitor, coordinators and the VM team will be able to follow incoming reports in real time, gaining an immediate overview of developments at polling stations from the moment they open. This mission is supported by ProElect – Promote Accountability in Electoral Processes in the Eastern Partnership through Increased Participation and Capacity of Civic Actors – under the Grants for Cross-Border Networks in Electoral Monitoring and Observation Activities initiative offered by ERIM International. As a busy and productive week comes to an end, our Commit Global team is wrapping up a full week in Armenia during the final stretch before the Parliamentary Elections. This Sunday, together with our local and international NGO partners, we will support election observation efforts through Vote Monitor. These elections mark the 39th election process around the world supported by Vote Monitor, and we are proud to continue helping civil society organizations strengthen transparency and accountability. This year, Vote Monitor will be used by our long-term local partner Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, as well as two trusted international election observation organizations, EDDA - European Dialogue and Democracy Association and Silba - Initiative for Dialogue and Democracy. On Election Day, the platform will process reports from more than 700 observers, providing NGOs with a comprehensive real-time overview of developments at polling stations from the moment polls open in the morning. With just two days remaining before Election Day, intensive observer trainings are still underway, and preparations are reaching their final stages.
