  • 🚨 Nearly 9 in 10 Indian adults have lipid (fat) abnormalities. The ICMR-INDIAB Study has revealed that 87.3% of Indian adults have at least one abnormal blood fat (lipid) level, making dyslipidaemia one of India's most common yet silent health concerns. Key findings: 🔹 66.8% have low HDL ("good") cholesterol. 🔹 49.4% have high LDL ("bad") cholesterol. 🔹 29.5% have high triglycerides. People with diabetes, obesity or high blood pressure are at an even greater risk. ⚠️ The biggest concern? Lipid abnormalities usually have no symptoms. Over time, they can silently damage blood vessels and significantly increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. The good news? Early detection and healthy lifestyle changes can make a significant difference. ✅ Get your lipid profile checked regularly. 🥗 Eat a balanced diet. 🏃 Stay physically active. ⚖️ Maintain a healthy weight. 💊 Take medications only if prescribed by your doctor. • Our Chairman's (Dr. V. Mohan Diabetes Specialist) latest article has been published in The Indian Express. Key takeaways: • High blood sugar can silently damage the liver even before symptoms appear. • Fatty liver is very common in people with diabetes and obesity. • Fatty liver is not always harmless. If left untreated it can progress to liver inflammation, liver scarring, liver failure and even liver cancer. • Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. It can be caused by viruses, alcohol, certain medicines or fatty liver disease. • Good blood sugar control, healthy eating, regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can help protect the liver. • Regular health checkups can help detect liver problems early when treatment is most effective. • Your liver doesn't need a special detox. It needs smarter food choices. Eating these foods occasionally isn't the problem. But eating them frequently and in large portions can increase the risk of fatty liver, especially if you have diabetes, obesity or insulin resistance. Try these simple Indian food swaps: 🥤 Sugary drinks → Water, buttermilk, fresh coconut water or lemon water 🍚 Refined carbohydrates (maida, white bread and bakery foods) → Whole wheat chapati, brown rice, hand-pounded rice, dalia, millets or oats (steel-cut or rolled) 🍟 Fried foods → Sprouts, boiled/roasted chana or soup 🌭 Processed meats → Fish, skinless chicken, eggs, dals, chana, rajma or paneer 🍬 Sweets → Fresh fruit, unsweetened curd or a handful of nuts and seeds when cravings strike Remember, it's not about avoiding these foods completely. It's about choosing healthier options more often and keeping portions in check. Which healthy swap are you going to try this week? Share it in the comments. 👇 This post is for educational purposes only. For personalised dietary advice, consult your doctor or a registered dietitian. . . . • "I'm just tired... maybe it's because I didn't sleep well." "My urine looks darker today... it'll be fine." "I've lost my appetite... it will pass." Do these thoughts sound familiar? Sometimes, what seems like a minor issue could be your liver asking for help. This World Hepatitis Day, Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre reminds you not to ignore the warning signs of hepatitis. Watch out for: • Persistent tiredness • Yellow eyes or skin (jaundice) • Dark coloured urine • Loss of appetite • Pain in the upper right side of the abdomen • Nausea or vomiting If you notice these symptoms: ✔️ Don't wait for them to go away on their own. ✔️ Visit a doctor and get the recommended blood tests. ✔️ Avoid self-medicating, as some medicines can affect the liver. ✔️ If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar closely and follow your doctor's advice, as illness can affect your blood sugar levels. This World Hepatitis Day, listen to your body. Early diagnosis can make all the difference. 📞 To know more, call 96771 88888 or visit www.drmohans.com.
