Supporting thousands of staff and students requires IT that’s flexible and dependable. The University of Otago worked with us to transform its IT environment using Azure Virtual Desktops, simplifying management while improving access and performance. The result: a more scalable, secure platform that better supports learning, teaching, and research. A strong example of modern IT enabling education at scale.

Most cloud modernisation failures aren't execution problems, they're planning problems. Organisations move workloads into the cloud without a clear view of what they're meant to become and end up with a more expensive version of the same operational complexity they started with. According to the Flexera 2026 State of the Cloud Report, organisations estimate 29% of cloud spend is wasted. That waste is almost always a planning failure, not a technology one. In his latest article, Inde's Technology Strategist, Chris Beckett makes the case for why planning is the strategic discipline that separates modernisation from missed opportunity: → Why lift-and-shift is a tactic masquerading as a strategy → How on-premises infrastructure locks organisations into reactive planning cycles → Why "we need AI" is rapidly becoming the new "we need cloud" and what that means for modernisation decisions → What good modernisation planning actually looks like, with real examples across operations, healthcare, and logistics The organisations creating the most value from modernisation aren't moving fastest. They're moving with the clearest direction.

Some of the most valuable conversations in technology start with opinions people are reluctant to say out loud. That's the idea behind Reality Bytes - a series designed to challenge accepted thinking, cut through industry hype, and explore the operational realities sitting behind popular trends, tools and best practices. Not because conventional wisdom is always wrong, but because real-world experience is usually more nuanced. For our latest Reality Bytes, Inde Technical Specialist Cloud, Zade Fairweather is questioning a common response to growing data volumes: Do you really need more storage? Storage consumption is growing rapidly, and the default response is often to buy more. But Zade argues that many organisations don't have a storage problem at all. They have a visibility problem. A policy problem. An automation problem. Before approving the next storage expansion, perhaps the better question is: "What are we afraid to delete, and why?" Sound interesting? If you are keen to read the full blog, you'll find the link in comments.

Sustainability isn’t just a goal, it’s a series of practical decisions. For a large supply chain business, unused hardware was taking up space and contributing to growing e-waste challenges. Working together, and with the help of eWaste specialist Greenbox Group Pty Ltd we helped remove and responsibly process tonnes of e-waste, freeing up physical space while reducing environmental impact. It’s a simple idea, executed well and a reminder that IT decisions can play a meaningful role in sustainability outcomes.

Cloud modernisation rarely fails because of technology. It fails because of what sits underneath it: – Cost that isn’t fully understood – Complexity that builds quietly over time – Decisions made without clear ownership In our second Tech Takeaways session, Inde’s Cloud & Identity Director Chris Burke and Cloud Specialist Michael Jarry unpack what they’re consistently seeing across NZ organisations and why “lift and shift” alone rarely delivers the value businesses expect. If cloud has started to feel more complex (or more expensive) than expected, this on-demand webinar is worth a watch. Watch via link in comments.

Most organisations surface the same concerns during modernisation planning: • cost • security • skills shortages • uncertainty around where to begin But underneath those concerns is usually a more difficult reality: There is no shared view of what the future operating environment should become. There is an old military saying that, “No plan survives contact with the enemy.” In technology, that enemy is shifting business priorities, operational pressure, evolving platforms and constant disruption. That is precisely why planning matters. Not because organisations can predict every future decision, but because strategic clarity creates the ability to adapt with intent instead of reacting under pressure. Chris Beckett writes our latest blog tackling this topic titled "Planning is the difference between modernisation and missed opportunity.' Enterprise IT has fundamentally changed. Have managed services? After nine years working alongside enterprise IT teams navigating cloud, modernisation, and now AI, Ralf Donkers, Field CTO at Inde, has observed a fundamental shift: organisations no longer measure IT success by stability alone. They measure it by transformation, operational improvement, and competitive advantage. Yet most MSP relationships are still structured around the old model of maintenance according to contract. In this piece, Ralf explores why the best-performing managed service relationships shift from "support" to "continuous improvement partner" and what that actually means in practice. Worth the read if you're evaluating MSP relationships or leading technology strategy: The modern MSP is a continuous improvement engine not a helpdesk: https://lnkd.in/gEP8nKKd

When you’re operating across regions, security can’t be one-size-fits-all. A leading global real estate company recognised their legacy MFA approach wasn’t keeping up with the risks of a distributed workforce. They needed a more proactive, flexible way to protect users across Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, without disrupting day-to-day operations. Inde took a strategic approach, evaluating multiple providers before partnering with Authsignal a platform that offered flexible pricing, seamless Azure AD B2C integration, and powerful no-code rules engine. Together, they delivered a modern MFA solution that introduced biometrics, passkeys, and intelligent, risk-based policies, all rolled out in phases to ensure a smooth transition for users. The impact was immediate: stronger security, greater control, and a frictionless user experience, all implemented in just two months with no reported issues. As Authsignal shared: “Deploying phishing-resistant MFA across three countries in two months, with no reported issues, is a strong result.” Read the full case study to see how a proactive approach to MFA can scale globally.
