MEET THE TEAM

FOUNDER/DIRECTOR

The woman behind this whole operation - sleep-deprivation and all! Emma started Real Public Relations (formerly ES Publicity & Events) in 2019, following her move to Mudgee with partner, Owen. But despite the tree-change, Emma has never been one to slow down for long - and so her business was born around the same time as her son, Reuben. Now, Real PR consists of a growing team & 20+ strong list of local and state-wide clients.

But Emma is no ordinary entrepreneur, with 15+ years of experience in corporate and public sector public relations, strategic communications, copywriting, social and digital media, and media relations.

When she’s not behind the computer, you’ll find Emma drinking cinos with Reu, listening to podcasts, watching true crime docos & drinking rose.

Emma Spillett

  • Originally from Wollongong, Emma studied a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) & Bachelor of Law at the University of Wollongong, before beginning her career as a features writer at daily newspaper, The Illawarra Mercury. Working her way through the ranks, Emma was appointed one of the paper’s youngest ever Chief of Staff in 2014, managing the newspaper’s daily print and digital operations, along with a team of 12.

    In 2015, Emma sought new opportunities when she took on the role of senior corporate communications specialist at Western Sydney Local Health District, responsible for managing social, digital and print marketing for five hospitals, including Westmead Hospital.

    In 2017, Emma was appointed the Director of Communications for the $1 billion Westmead Redevelopment project - the biggest hospital redevelopment project in NSW. Fast forward to 2019, with a six-month old baby in arms, she decided to trade in her corporate Sydney life for the chance to build both a family and a thriving business in Mudgee, NSW.

    Hannah Edensor

    SENIOR DIGITAL MARKETING + SOCIAL MEDIA CO-ORDINATOR

    Also a former Wollongong local, Hannah moved to the big smoke to study Media & Communications at the University of Sydney. In 2015, she started out as a journalist for B2B publications, Travel Weekly & B&T Magazine, working her way up to the role of Digital Editor.

    In 2017, with her partner in tow, Hannah swapped the Sydney skyline for the quiet streets of Mudgee. Here, she found a new career as a freelance copywriter, while also completing her yoga teacher training.

    After meeting in Mudgee, Emma instantly fell in love with Hannah’s incredible writing skills, creative eye and drive to succeed & brought her on-board. Now, she is a mainstay in Emma’s burgeoning team, bringing her copywriting & digital skills to the growing client list.

    A self-confessed workaholic (second only to Emma!), Hannah also runs her own yoga studio, Good Culture Club. In her spare time, you’ll find her chilling with her partner & two dogs, on her yoga mat, dancing to disco music & travelling abroad whenever she gets the chance.

    Karen Spillett

    ACCOUNT MANAGER

    Karen comes to the Real Public Relations team, following a successful career in the financial sector, working for NatWest (UK), Advance Bank & 25 years with the IMB Bank, working in both branches & head office.

    When Karen announced her plans to retire in 2020, daughter & Real Public Relations founder Emma Spillett quickly snapped her up to manage all things accounts for the agency – a job she HATED & was desperate to outsource!

    Karen now looks after all accounts & billing for the Real team, distributing monthly invoices & managing all new client set-ups, including contracts and administration.

    When she's not working, Karen enjoys travel, musical theatre and jigsaw puzzles! Based in the Illawarra, she also loves her morning walks at the beach & visiting her Mudgee family – including her beloved grandson Reuben.

    Sam McKendry

    DIGITAL MARKETING + SOCIAL MEDIA CO-ORDINATOR

    Say hello to our newest Real recruit.

    Sam is a Mudgee local & second generation owner at Vinifera Wines & like all good business owners, she has plenty of skills up her sleeve.

    After completing her Bachelors in Business (Marketing) at the University of Technology Sydney, Sam worked for three years in Marketing & Partnerships for Uber Australia.

    When Sam moved back to Mudgee, she took on the family wine business & found a side hustle as a copywriter & social media savant at Real Public Relations.

    When she’s not in the vineyard or at the office, you’ll find Sam hanging out with her 5-year-old kelpie, gardening, cooking up a storm & scrolling Instagram reels.
