Which is crazy. Im a web dev making small games with electron.
It literally can run offline just fine (local server). Thats the default.
I wonder if Subway Builder is just a fork of his main business project, Redistricter, which absolutely needs to be connected and can't run offline? And he doesnt know how to source or download his own data? (Or worse, Redistricter itself is just a shell over a third party API)
I see where youre coming from.
From my understanding, a large amount of the game, including some assets and UI components, are indeed AI. The dev hasnt clarified this so its hard to know. But if this is the case, I'm on the "disclose" side.
There's no valid reason for always online. Its a lot of work? So? We gave the devs money to fix these things (I bought this game last year to support them). Its their job to figure it out and its not our problem if they poorly coded something. Fix it! Thats what good game developers do.
Hey so let me remind you that at the end of the day this is just a product and we are paying consumers.
Many consumers, especially gamers, are anti-AI. So much so Steam requires AI disclosures now. People dont want to buy AI games. I know there is nuance here, feel free to see my post history. But at the end of the day, if consumers feel that AI is unacceptable for games, thats how it is. Ranting about it on twitter wont help you. Colin could instead explain in detail how AI was used and be transparent so maybe some consumers will give him an easier time. And depending on the level of AI, the steam store page has to be updated.
The above tweet is not going to win anyone.
