Look Ma', No AI!

Why write code yourself in the age of AI? I can "vibe-code" with the best of them (since I already know how to code, it's pretty easy to guide an LLM), but there are many reasons that I don't go for integrating AI into my IDE and just letting it write the code for me... the impact on the environment, the cost of tokens, and security vulnerabilities are just a start!

Sure, it's a bit slower, but the cool thing about writing your own programs is that you intimately know how they work. If the AI is down, I can keep making progress. If something breaks, I know where to go to fix it. I get to decide exactly how it works and what dependencies are used. In the end, you get a more maintanable product and someone who is very familiar with its inner workings.

Think of it like this:
Would you rather have delicous, gooey, creamy, home-made Mac n' Cheese 👍, or something quick out of a box 👎?

I enjoy the learning, building my skills, architecting systems, and making useful things. Every day there are new puzzles to solve and interesting people to work with. Above all, for me programming is fun... and we can't let the machines have all the fun, now can we?
