Welcome to Builder's Day

0:15

Welcome to Build a State. On behalf of Prisma, thank you for joining us. There's a sentence I think we're going to hear a lot more often. I never thought of myself as a developer, but I built this. A marketer built a tool they've always wanted. Operations manager turns a messy process into an application.

0:35

Or I found I would test an idea that would previously have just stayed in a notebook.

Why more people can build software now

0:40

AI is shortening the distance between understanding a problem and being able to build a solution. That opens up a huge amount of possibility. Think about all the useful software that never gets built because the problem seems too small. But here it is too limited. The person who understands it doesn't know how to code.

1:01

Well, AI is rapidly transforming our world and more of those people can now get started. And the knowledge they bring, their understanding of customers, their profession, their community, is incredibly valuable. If that sounds like you, you belong here. You're a builder. And if you've been writing software for 20 years, there's a whole new set of people you can now build alongside.

How to get started

1:24

My advice for taking advantage of this is simple. Pick a problem you know well. Build the smallest thing that could help. Put it in someone's hands and then watch what happens. And improve it. Use AI to explain things as you go. Test what it produces. You can build your understanding alongside your application.

1:44

And keep one question in mind throughout the day. What could I make with this? The today's speakers will give you plenty of ideas.

Meet today's speakers

1:53

Corey Haines is the founder of Conversion Factory. Captures this shift perfectly in how I went from marketer to building AI marketing tools. He created marketing skills, an open source toolkit for marketers. Listen for how expertise in a field can become the starting point for building software.

2:13

CJ Brewer, co-founder of Swirls AI and VP of Operations at Cypher Stacks, asks, "Could this just be a markdown file?" He'll explore how written instructions grow into agents a business can depend on with clear permissions and human approvals. That's a useful bridge from experimenting to doing real work.

2:34

Brian Douglas, co-founder and CEO of Paper Compute, brings dreams, reflections, and inceptions. His focus is agent memory. How lessons from one session can help the next. Pay attention if you've ever felt you were explaining the same thing to an AI over and over. Taylor Benfield is Prisma's Platform Architect. He joins us with You and What Army? He works across database, application hosting, and AI infrastructure. Brings a practical perspective on getting reliable results when you delegate work to agents. An increasingly valuable skill for anyone building with AI.

3:12

Yannis Zechling, co-founder of Prisma, will talk about declarative agents. Drawing on a year of research at Compounding Technologies. He's exploring foundations for that help agents succeed with less effort from us. Listen for how the way we describe work could make agents easier to use.

3:31

Will Metton leads the engineering team behind Prisma ORM. He brings years of experience building open source software that other developers depend on. As creating applications become more accessible, his perspective on making the tools underneath those applications dependable comes valuable to many more people.

3:50

Shane Neubauer, Prisma's Product Lead, spent 5 years prototyping products at Google. In about our stack, integrated products ideal for agents, he'll explore how the pieces fit together. Listen for what a more integrated stack could make easier for you and your agents. And Boris Tay, founder of Baseline and now building PolyLane, joins us for a lightning talk. His background is in understanding and operating production software.

4:18

He brings the perspective you want when real people start depending on something you've built.

Closing: leave with one idea to try

4:24

My hope is that you leave today with one idea you're excited to try and the confidence to start. Welcome to Builders Day and let's start building.
