MANRS for Network Operators
Apply NowNetwork operators have a collective responsibility to ensure a globally robust and secure routing infrastructure. Your network’s safety depends on a routing infrastructure that weeds out bad actors and accidental misconfigurations that wreak havoc on the Internet. The more network operators work together, the fewer incidents there will be, and the less damage they can do.
The MANRS Network Operators Program defines the minimum steps network operators like Internet Service Providers should take to ensure the security and resilience of the Internet’s global routing system.
Actions
- Filtering. Ensure the correctness of your own announcements and those from your customers to adjacent networks
- Anti-spoofing. Enable source address validation for at least single-homed stub customer networks, their own end-users, and infrastructure
- Coordination. Maintain globally accessible, up-to-date contact information in common routing databases.
- Global information. Publish your data so others can validate
Implementation Guide
An Implementation Guide documents deployment of MANRS Actions and is targeted at stub networks and small providers. The document also assists in checking if the network setup is compliant with MANRS.
Testimonials
The University of Maine System is a strong supporter of the MANRS initiative and will follow its guidance to assist in the stabilization of the routing infrastructure of the Internet.
We stand behind the MANRS initiative, especially taking into account our primary goal of adhering and refining of industry best-practices, as far as security and data protection are concerned. Initiatives of the nature of MANRS are always welcome, in the spirit of improving both our internal quality assurance and security efforts in the medium-term.
Tier4 Services adapted a clearly defined mission: to uphold the tough standards of high-speed communication via the Internet every minute of the day and provide secure communications. MANRS is a great initiative to help to improve the standards on a global scale and make the Internet more secure.
MANRS is an excellent initiative that has allowed us to direct a greater focus on the security aspects related to our BGP infrastructure
Foton Telecom, CJSC (AS42861) is dedicated to providing secure and robust internet infrastructure for its customers. We believe that routing security is imperative for the sustainability of the global communications network. Maintaining Internet routing security is our shared responsibility. By joining MANRS and adopting its recommended practices, we committed to enhanced our network and we express our intent to contribute to build a strong and secure foundation for the Internet.
Chief Technical Officer (CTO)We believe the security, stability, and resiliency of the Internet operation can be improved via distributed and shared responsibilities as documented in MANRS. As one of the largest academic networks in the world, CERNET is committed to the MANRS actions.
Deputy Director, CERNETMANRS represents the future of Internet routing security. Network operators in the MANRS community are pioneers, making global routing infrastructure as robust and secure as possible, through innovation and investment. As a leading global communications and network service provider, China Telecom (Americas) has been collaborating with the MANRS team since early 2019 to implement the best routing security standards on all of our major Internet networks. Today, we are excited to be count ourselves as a MANRS participant, and hopefully inspire more large-scale network operators to join our ranks.
Vice President, China Telecom Americas CorporationAs part of APNIC’s Vision: A global, open, stable, and secure Internet that serves the entire Asia Pacific community, APNIC would like to join the Internet Society’s MANRS initiative to support and contribute to reduce the most common routing threats. APNIC works extensively to assist our Members with improving their routing security to ensure the Internet is secure and safe to use.
APNICInternet security requires the collaboration and commitment from all the networks involved. Kemnet believes that with MANRS, Global cooperation will be a step in improved routing security and good Internet governance.
Senior Network Engineer, KEMNETMazeda Networks has endeavored to keep up a safe and flexible network, conveying the most refreshed prescribed procedures and, as a National ISP Network, spreading them to its clients so as to get from them a dedication of sending these accepted procedures in their systems also. Holding fast to MANRS activity fortifies this position.
Having been introduced to MANRS through attendance at LINX 102 we could see that this was a great way for us to be able to benchmark ourselves against recognised best-practice. In addition we benefit from being part of a community of like-minded organisations looking to make the global Internet more resilient and secure.
Kevin Herbert, Operations DirectorSince its beginnings, RedIRIS has striven to maintain a secure and resilient network, deploying the most updated best practices and, as a National R&E Network, disseminating them to its customers in order to get from them a commitment of deploying these best practices in their networks as well.
