Trying to remember a sci-fi/space TV program that I remember seeing sometime in the early 1980s in the UK

The show was different as it involved real actors, interacting with very basic two dimensional robots (that didn't move except to be slide from side to side). The robots were about the same size as the actors and were generally slim and angular in design (as opposed to Metal Mickey).

All I can remember is that the robots were split into two opposing sides, only one of which was allied to the humans (don't know who was helping who). When the 'bad' robots captured a 'good robot', it was placed in a sealed perspex / glass box. It would then be 'executed' by allowing a swarm of some tiny black entities into the box, which proceeded to rapidly devour the robot.

I think there was only one series made.

Any ideas anyone?

Possibly Captain Zep - Space Detective.

It certainly has human actors interacting with 2D aliens. Some very basic animation.

Date is right. It ran 1983-4 in the UK.

Episode 5 sounds like it might be a match for the episode you remember. If so, the robots were 1-episode guest characters, not regulars.

Here's a clip

@PeterM - By the 1980s most British TV shows had started to show a little more nuance in naming their characters. Apparently these guys didn't get the memo Commented 13 hours ago
