wish concept of mystery box / mystery bag toys just did not exist .
momentary surprise over " rare item " is not worth all of package waste , money waste , and duplicate toys that will collect dust or go straight to landfill .
for every person who is genuine and responsible in engagement of mystery toys , there will be 5 more who try to make these things " viral trend " or collect every single one , and then harder for people who would genuinely appreciate to find .
people unfortunately do this with non-mystery toys too , but mystery toys add another seriously awful element - if everything is hidden , then need to spend immense amounts of money to even have chance at find favourite outcome .
if engagement in these trends is " for childhood fun and whimsy " like some claim , why not look at actual modes of childhood play ?
put some toys in sandbox , even if this is just small bowl , and dig out again . ask someone trusted to hide toys around room . play shell game with really small ones . if really want this idea of unbox experience , reuse bags and boxes that already have around house to put toys back into - boxes can be rocket ships , adoption shelters , anything .
could even just change out display of toys , so arrangement feel new again .
Olá de Lisboa! (I'm in Lisbon right now for work...)
Thank you everybody who has tested on canary - I'm about to push the code up to stable. I know that not everything has been tested and there's a lot in this deploy, so I expect some things to break or be weird. We have ported a lot more of the "older" pages to the newer formats, so there will be some UI changes in a few places, but it shouldn't be anything too major.
Watch for: One thing I know will require tuning, we now have added rate limits (which basically allows us to control how rapidly DW pages are loaded.) This is a protection mostly designed against bots, but any time in my career I've rolled out new rate limits, I've learned someone is hitting them and they have to be tuned. So if you see them, please let me know!
Anyway please do comment and I'll work to fix things today. We also have a rollback ready in case we need to (and I'll be honest, I expect we may need to... we really should do more frequent deploys.)
As always, thank you for your patience and supporting our scrappy little service!
something that is actually difficult with both large population and frequent switches , and still sometimes struggle to figure out : personal needs , boundaries , and tolerances as individuals .
is this courtier afraid of humans , or just end up front during already high stress ?
is this courtier more sensitive to light than others , or just feel after-effects of migraine ?
is this courtier more clumsy than others , or was today just clumsy day all around ?
for all of things that figure out and record over years , points like these continue to be struggle in some cases . if someone spend on average 1 to 3 hours in front , and front 2-3 times per week at most , that is not much time to figure out .
and that is just for 1 courtier to figure out - obviously , there will be many more in time between , who might also want to figure out similar personal questions . that is so much to try and juggle , even if make attempts to journal out .
on one hand , not entirely necessary to record individual struggles like this , so long as know how to recognise when struggles hit , and then have ways to either step back or accomodate .
on other hand , do like to do courtesies for each other , and part of that is to not throw directly into struggles when switch - like if courtier who hate human food want to switch in , will finish up meal first .
hard to help each other avoid personal struggles in that way if can not even identify struggles ...
really , another reason for anonymity relate to culture around names .
some courtiers do line up with characters seen in fictional works . while not every one of these works is massively popular , information is still in public eye , and that include names .
courtiers may use these home names with one another , particularly when close , but even those who did not originally belong to some form of faerie culture would be put off by use of home name . even if home name is technically known due to fictional association , general culture is to refrain from use unless given permission .
sans tend to be fallback example for illustration , so : this is to say that if sans was here , no one else would actually call sans except for homemates ( fellow courtiers from undertale ) , or other courtiers given permission . during front , sans would go by front alias - and anyone in front , even if given permission to use home name , would also refer to this front alias for anonymity .
out of few courtiers who reveal home names in external settings , this is either because that name was never true to begin with , or powerful enough to feel knowledge could not threaten .
