McCain Library’s 2026 Arseneau Awardee!

Lily Brickmeier ’26 is a First-Gen student who has worked for McCain Library for three years, first as a volunteer intern, and for the last two years, in research support and community engagement. During the summer of 2025, Lily explored her interest in a library career by jointly interning for the libraries at Agnes Scott, Emory, and Georgia Tech, learning more about cataloging, affordable learning initiatives, and instructional design. During this internship, Lily produced an online module that teaches Agnes Scott College students to evaluate and select authoritative sources by engaging in horizontal reading techniques.

At McCain, she was a lead student manager for events such as the Mystery Date with a Book and field trips to the Decatur Public Library. She co-created the very popular Banned Books Escape Room and Literary Tea during the Writers’ Festival. She’s also represented the library at Admitted Scottie Days and the Decatur Book Festival, has written articles for the library newsletter, and crafted LibGuides for the Writers’ Festival. Her final project for McCain involved analyzing 100 student responses gleaned from multiple AI-focused workshops hosted by McCain Library librarians with undergraduate students. This analysis provided McCain Library with a snapshot of student use of AI tools for coursework and personal projects. Outside of McCain, Lily served for two years as a  SUMMIT Peer Advisor.  Her post-Agnes plans include earning an MLIS at the University of Maryland. We are proud to name Lily as our 2026 Arseneau Award winner!

McCain Library’s 2025 Arseneau Awardee!

McCain Library’s 2025 Arseneau Award recipient is August Fisk ’25. Following Commencement, August will be enrolled in Indiana University’s MLS program. An Art History major, August has interned at McCain Library, served as a Gallery Assistant at Dalton Gallery (3 years), and was pivotal in creating the new Reading Room space in the Dana Fine Arts gallery. They also served as co-president of The Silhouette (Agnes Scott’s yearbook) for 3 years and vice president of Mortar Board during their senior year.

August shared, “I’m interested in the library as a career because of how it serves the community and relates to my personal interests. I’m specifically interested in going into art librarianship to help serve the art and architectural history field. I thoroughly enjoy the field and want to stay in it, but I’m not interested in being a museum curator or a professor. Therefore, being an academic librarian for the arts is interesting to me because it sits at the intersection of academia and art and architectural history.”

Congratulations, August! The library is pleased to continue supporting internships and exploratory conversations about library and archives careers among Scotties. McCain Library received 7 Arseneau Award nominations this year; we thank all on campus and the off-campus advisory group who participated in the selection process.  For rising seniors, the award nomination form will reopen on March 26, 2026.
