ASPSA provides tutoring opportunities for all student-athletes. Academic support comes in many forms including one-on-one, small group or drop-in tutoring sessions. ASPSA also provides guided study and independent study opportunities which allot time for students to complete graded work in a productive environment. All academic support sessions occur on the second floor of Loudermilk Center for Excellence. Academic support sessions are hosted during the operating hours of ASPSA with most sessions occurring between 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday. It is a goal of the tutorial program to provide assistance for all requests made.
All ASPSA tutors participate in an extensive training program to inform of UNC, ASPSA, and NCAA policies and procedures. Tutoring sessions are typically scheduled at the beginning of each semester with the same tutor so students can expect consistent support. ASPSA employs approximately 50 tutors each semester who are a mix of undergraduates, graduates, and professionals who are content experts in their field.
There are two different kinds of tutor roles: content tutors who work closely to support subject specific skills and knowledge as well as writing tutors who assist students to navigate the writing process.
Students can take advantage of a range of academic support sessions that are designed to foster academic excellence while providing a personalized approach to academic success.
