I wonder if there's a point where the expectation of success becomes normal
I'm disinclined to believe the email subject line "Expert care for your Honda" when it introduces an email referring throughout to said Honda as a car. I feel that being able to count the wheels is a low bar for expertise
Screw proofreading, it took too long to write already. More inchoate longish-form ramblings about #eculocate development https://ww.telent.net/un_ble_vable
The tool is menu driven but can be automated from the command line.

AUTOMATION
Two common ways to automate the tool are to use Here Docs or the program expect.
Yeah, er, thanks.
The internet (well, mostly google's text extruder) says that the service check connector on my 2002 CBR600F is a Sumitomo HM-090. I am sceptical, because the pictures on the internet which illustrate that are not very similar at all to pictures of my actual connector, which is much closer to https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170607237124
Interesting to note in this regard that the service manual for this model doesn't say "use the £40 honda plug with a jumper wire" but just "use a jumper wire". Which might be because the honda plug doesn't fit, or might just be because honda hadn't invented that plug in 2001
installing a raspberry pi 0 w using a keyboard plugged into a usbotg cable and an hdmi capture card plugged into my laptop (vlc ftw) because the imaging software doesn't actually work to configure wifi/sshd/initial password
eculocate has reached the point that I can set the wifi credentials using bluetooth and don't need to hardcode them in the image any more.
I am running out of FA in my TODO list and inexorably approaching the stage where I have to FO
I have the Pixies' Caribou as an earworm and honestly it's better than every other earworm I've had this week
As far as I can tell:
esp-radio WifiController has a method called scan_with_config_async, which does nothing until you await it, and then goes off for 10-20 milliseconds per channel and comes back at the end with all the networks it found.
I don't see a way to scan and have it report the networks (e.g. using a callback) as it finds them, but obviously this is because it would have to be called scan_with_config_async_actually_we_really_mean_it_about_asynchronously and who wants to type all that out
Seriously considering putting eculocate under a non-foss licence like the Hippocratic licence or the anticapitalist licence. I don't think it has value as reusable/buildable-on code, I'd be pretty happy if it's only hobbyists who can use it
note to self:
BLE assert emi.c 164, param 00000000 00001000
assert_wrapper called - inspect the logs
(there are no logs)
actually means "couldn't allocate memory". Or at least, that's one possible cause. I can't say if there are others
Took me ages to find the right part number and a seller for the grommet that will stop the fairing side panel rattling. Ordered one, received it, and put it in a safe place. Argh.
Thing that has been puzzling me for a while but is easily explained by arithmetic: Ford Prefect chose his Earth name because he had misidentified the dominant species on the planet as cars. Given the story is set in the late 1970s, why did he pick a car that ceased production in 1961?
The answer is of course that he'd been on earth for 14 years by the time it's blown up, and there were probably still lots of them on the road in the mid 60s
(When I first read the hhgttg book in ~ 1982 I would have been 8 years old and it was not until a long time later that I learned the Prefect had been a car. Just one of many jokes I didn't get at that age)
I'm installing pynacl on my phone. Up yours, supporters of the war against general purpose computing

On the whole, how about neither?

(I don't like "iykyk" posts, so I will explain: this is what your 1990s x86 Linux box would print instead of booting when you had done something silly like move the IDE drive's master/slave jumper without rerunning LILO)
long-form spew alert: new blog post at https://ww.telent.net/flash_is_fast_flash_is_cool
but if you follow my short-form spew here on the fediverse there's probably nothing in it you haven't seen already
Bought some new wireless earbuds, and found by accident that if I long-press the back of the left ear it says "gay mode"
Which will be handy if I want to do crimes, I guess
I self-host a lot of stuff, I avoid "big tech" where I can, I run a degoogled phone, I use firefox with UBO, I wrote my own linux distro to run on my router. My assumption has always that if I were less stubborn I could have a much slicker and less slightly-broken tech experience by switching to mainstream Google/Apple/Samsung/MS/whatever-tech-giant products, but then I accidentally visited youtube without an ad blocker and I am confirmed in my biases.
Bought an ebook for work, and it comes in some DRMed format that can only be viewed in Adobe Digital Editions
What an awful piece of software. The pro-pirate people can sit back and take the week off, nobody is making a better case for cracking DRM than Adobe is here
