How do I set up the Beam Eye Tracker?
Open the Beam Eye Tracker, go to Tracker > Guided Setup, and click Get Started. The setup walks you through camera selection, positioning, calibration, and your recenter hotkey.
How do I set up the Beam Eye Tracker with my game?
Most games work automatically. Start the Beam Eye Tracker, launch your game, and the in-game camera will respond to your head and eye movements. A few games (like Star Citizen, F1, and Farming Simulator) need a quick in-game setting change. Check the game setup guides for game-specific instructions.
What webcam do I need for the Beam Eye Tracker?
For most users, a standard 720p webcam, built-in or external, is a cost-effective and instant option. It offers solid performance and simple setup at 30 FPS. You can also use free apps that turn your phone into a webcam.
If you're looking to upgrade, make sure you are happy with the app before buying any hardware. If you run into issues, reach out to us.
How do I add the eye tracking overlay to my stream or recording?
The Beam Eye Tracker outputs a transparent overlay that shows where you're looking. You can capture this in OBS, Streamlabs, or any recording software as a window source. There's a hotkey to toggle the overlay on and off, and you can hide it on your own screen while keeping it visible in the recording or stream.
Do I still need OpenTrack?
No, for most users. Since v2.5.5, the Beam Eye Tracker integrates OpenTrack components directly and games work with Beam out of the box. If you rely on an OpenTrack feature that is not yet built into Beam, you can still use the standalone OpenTrack app alongside it.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes.
We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee for purchases of the standalone version from our website. Email [email protected] to request a refund.
There is a free trial available on Steam that we strongly recommend trying before purchase. If you purchase on Steam after being happy with the trial performance, please note that refunds are handled directly by Steam under their policy: Steam Refund Policy.
Does the Beam Eye Tracker work with glasses?
Yes, the Beam Eye Tracker is compatible with glasses. However, performance may slightly decrease with strong prescriptions or glare. If your glasses have thick rims, positioning the camera below the monitor can help maintain visibility of your eyes. It's advisable to try the free demo on Steam to see how it works with your specific glasses.
Beam Eye Tracker starts but then shuts down immediately. What's wrong?
There could be a few reasons why this is happening:
- Antivirus software may block Beam from accessing the webcam or prevent it from running. In Malwarebytes, adding the Beam Eye Tracker as a protected application can fix the issue.
- Some users reported success by turning OFF Windows Security > App & Browser Control > Exploit Protection with a CFG override. If you don't want to do this globally, go to Exploit Protection > Program Settings. Add
BeamEyeTracker.exeand turn OFF Control Flow Guard by overriding the system settings, so that this will only apply to the Beam Eye Tracker. - In some cases, there could be camera access issues. Test your camera's functionality with the generic Windows camera app to confirm that it can see you and start Beam while the Windows camera app is on.
- Finally, in rare circumstances, your calibration or settings file may be corrupted. As a last resort, rename the folder
C:\Users\[Your Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Beam Eye TrackertoC:\Users\[Your Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Beam Eye Tracker(Tmp)and restart Beam. If you confirm this fixed the issue, we would be grateful if you send the old folder to [email protected] so we can investigate what went wrong. You can then delete the old folder.

Beam Eye Tracker is not showing. What should I do?
- Check your system tray for the Beam Eye Tracker icon. It may be hidden, so click the arrow on the taskbar to reveal all tray apps. To keep it visible, drag the icon to your taskbar.
- Uninstall any previous versions of Beam you might have installed at some point (Webcam Edition / iOS Edition / Steam Edition) and reinstall the latest version.
Why is "Eyeware Beam" not listed as an input in OpenTrack?
- First, ensure that you're using the latest version of OpenTrack. You can download the latest version here.
- If "Eyeware Beam" is still not available as an input, your computer may be missing the required Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributables. You can find more information on the official Microsoft website, or use the direct download links below:
- Download x86 version
- Download x64 version
- First, install the x86 version. If the issue persists, install the x64 version as well.
Why is the sign-in failing for my Beam Eye Tracker?
- Some users have reported Beam to take a long time processing a sign in request from some locations or PCs and, in some cases, failing to sign in. As a first step, we suggest changing your DNS provider, as some services may be unreachable otherwise; Discord has a good guide on how to do this: Changing Your DNS Provider. If that doesn't work, some users have reported success by temporarily using a VPN during the sign-in process. If you don't have one, you can use the freely available ProtonVPN. They have also reported that the VPN was not needed after the sign in was completed.
- If you are using "Sign in with Google" make sure you follow the sign-in instructions that appear in your browser after clicking the "Sign in with Google" button.
- Should the app fail to respond after signing in through the browser, the issue might stem from Google not properly notifying the Beam Eye Tracker of the authentication. In such cases, trying a different browser, or restarting your PC and attempting to sign in again could resolve the problem.
- If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to transition your account to authentication using your email address and a password (instead of the "Sign in with Google" option). Please visit accounts.eyeware.tech and sign in. Click on the "Reset password" button and you should receive a password-reset email in your inbox. Follow the instructions to assign a new password. Then, you'll be able to log into the Beam Eye Tracker software by entering your email address and the newly created password and clicking on "Sign In".
- Temporarily disable your anti-virus during authentication.
- Try whitelisting the Beam Eye Tracker in your firewall settings.
Norton Antivirus blocked my installation. Now I can't uninstall or install and getting error messages. What can I do?
Restore the Beam Eye Tracker files from Norton's quarantine, add them to Norton's exclusion list, then try uninstalling and reinstalling again. If that doesn't work, temporarily disable Norton during installation, then re-enable it and add Beam to the exclusions.
I purchased the Standalone version but can't find the download. What should I do?
Please visit the accounts page for the Standalone version here: accounts.eyeware.tech.
How can I reduce jitteriness?
Jitteriness in tracking can often be reduced by adjusting a few environmental and setup parameters. Here are some tips:
- If you're wearing glasses, consider removing them to test if there's a significant improvement. Glare from glasses can interfere with tracking accuracy. Improving lighting conditions to minimize glare or adjusting the position of the camera might help.
- Positioning the camera at the bottom of your screen might yield better tracking results. The angle can provide a wider view of the eye, improving tracking stability.
- Ensure your room is well-lit. Good lighting conditions support optimal tracking performance.
- Experiment with the responsiveness and sensitivity in the Beam Eye Tracker settings.
Do I need to relaunch my game every time I use the Beam Eye Tracker?
No. You only need to relaunch your game once, right after installing Beam for the first time, and only if your game was already running during installation. After the initial installation, you can start Beam and your game in any order.
Does the app collect biometric data?
No, Beam Eye Tracker does not generate or store any biometric data.
Why does my webcam turn on but show no video, lag, or stop when using Beam Eye Tracker?
As a first step, use the "Video Preview" option in the Beam Eye Tracker software to check whether the webcam video stream shows symptoms such as no video, lag, or disconnections, even though the webcam appears to be ON (e.g., the indicator light is on). Make sure you have granted Beam the necessary permissions to access your webcam in Windows settings (Settings > Privacy > Camera).
Some users report that antivirus software can interfere with webcam stream access, causing issues like no video display, lag, or disconnections. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus or adding BeamEyeTracker.exe as an exclusion in your antivirus settings.
If the issue persists, check for conflicting applications that may be using the webcam, update your webcam drivers, or restart the Beam software.
Why am I being asked to pay again for the Beam Eye Tracker app when I already purchased it?
This usually happens if you're logging in with the wrong email. Double-check and use the email you originally registered with. If the issue persists, contact support and provide the email you used to register.
Why can't I connect my iOS app to the Beam Eye Tracker PC software over WiFi?
Windows firewall or network settings may be blocking the connection. Try these fixes:
Add Beam to Windows Firewall:
- Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security (search via Windows button)
- Click Inbound Rules in the left column
- Select Action > New Rule > Program > This Program Path > Browse
- Navigate to
C:\Program Files\Eyeware\BeamEyeTrackerand select Beam.exe - Click Next three times
- Name it "Beam Eye Tracker" and click Finish
Set Network to Private:
- Click the WiFi icon in your taskbar
- Select Properties for your current network
- Change network profile to Private (this allows your iOS device and PC to discover each other)

How do I connect a PS3 Eye camera? It's not showing as an input device.
If your PS3 Eye camera is not showing as an input device in the Beam Eye Tracker, it is likely because the correct drivers are not installed. Windows does not include native drivers for the PS3 Eye camera.
To fix this, install the universal DirectShow driver: PS3 Eye Universal DirectShow Driver.
After installing the driver, restart the Beam Eye Tracker and your PS3 Eye camera should appear as a selectable input.
My game's mouse, joystick, or controller view controls stopped working after using the Beam Eye Tracker. How do I fix this?
When you set up head tracking, Beam installs the "FreeTrack 2.0" protocol so that compatible games can detect it. This protocol remains registered system-wide even after you close Beam, which can cause your game's default view controls to stop responding (for example, the mouse in Euro Truck Simulator 2 may no longer control the camera).
If Beam is still installed:
- Open the Beam Eye Tracker and go to Immersive Camera > Game Connection Method > FreeTrack 2.0.
- Under Required Protocol Registration, click Uninstall.
- Relaunch your game for the change to take effect.
If you have already uninstalled Beam:
- Delete the folder
C:\Users\[Your Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Beam Eye Tracker\opentrack. - Uninstall the OpenTrack application if it is installed.
- Relaunch your game.
What is the FreeTrack 2.0 protocol?
Installing the "FreeTrack 2.0" protocol in your system is necessary for compatible games to detect it. Uninstall only when you want to entirely disable it system-wide. For example, so that games like ETS2 fully return to mouse controls, or if you want to enable another application which relies on the same protocol such as OpenTrack. Uninstalling the protocol (or alternatively deleting the folder if you've already uninstalled Beam) will return your game to its normal mouse/controller controls. Relaunch the game for installation changes to take effect.
In Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2), when I pause Beam mid-game I can't control the camera with my mouse anymore. How do I fix this?
ETS2 has a built-in toggle for this. Go to Options > Keys & Buttons > Enable Head Tracking and assign a key of your choice to it.
Pressing that key mid-game will switch head tracking off and return full camera control to your mouse. Pressing it again re-enables the Beam Eye Tracker. You do not need to pause or close Beam for this to work.
This is the recommended workflow for ETS2 users who want to switch between eye/head tracking and mouse control on the fly.
ChasePlane in MSFS 2024: How do I get the Beam Eye Tracker working properly?
First, open ChasePlane and check your camera groups. Head tracking is often disabled for external views by default, so make sure it is enabled for every view you actually want it in.
Second, set your center/toggle keybind inside Beam itself rather than using the MSFS 2024 "reset head tracking" binding, which does not play well with ChasePlane.
