Substantially better than the first movie whilst still being able to fully encompass the details and symbolism of the first movie. This movie is amazing at keeping the audience on the edge of their seat with its jump-scares and different psychological and slasher horror aspects. The acting in this movie is also amazing as we see Finn go through an emotional rollercoaster about his traumas from the first movie and how the Grabber has been reinvented into an even scarier version of himself. Overall, an upgrade from the first movie and a good watch if wanting to see a truly scary horror movie.

Black Phone 2
★★★★

“DEAD IS JUST A WORD.”

The Black Phone 2 is an incredible example of taking a somewhat limited idea for where a sequel can go and doing wonders with it. This Nightmare on Elm Street style concept was executed so creatively that it expands the original’s mythology without feeling forced. I loved how it leaned further into the dream world elements, showing how terror can reach beyond the physical. It’s one of those rare horror sequels that actually feels like it…

As a HUGE fan of the Black Phone, they did so many things well. Everything ties together well and makes sense, expanding on the first movie in a way I never expected.

I did have a hard time not being annoyed it was so Freddy Krueger, but I can get over myself.

Best of the Shudder films by far. With this and last year's Beyond, I have more faith in the series, though why they don't just become a TV series at this point is sorta beyond me.

Coochie Coochie Coo: A somewhat standard haunted house affair, saved by some absolutely grisly imagery and concepts here. Good scares, and it's surprisingly pretty marvel to finally see a segment that actually uses the fact it's found footage to its advantage at one point.…

Segment #1: 5

That segment was so anxiety inducing and had me so stressed!! The two leads acted their asses off!!

Segment #2: 5

This one had me on the edge of my seat!! The ending was so disturbing!! I am slightly confused on the story but I’ll pick it up later!!

Segment #3: 5

Talk about carnage candy!! I want a full movie for this one!! The concept was seriously so fun and I had a blast with this…

Definitely a pretty gnarly movie, but I hyped myself for The Substance or Videodrome levels of body horror and this was shy of that.

As an exploration of codependency, I wish the movie got more nuanced as it went along. Except for the last 10 minutes or so, it front loads everything it wants to say about relationships.

It was superbly crafted with very grizzly special effects, but I was left wanting a bit more in terms of metaphorical depth…

This made me think about how at my wedding our officiate accidentally said “one becomes two” and had to correct himself to say “two becomes one”.
