Getting Started
What is Student Mate?
Student Mate is an AI-powered learning platform that helps students organize their study materials. Upload PDFs, audio notes, and documents, and our AI will generate summaries, flashcards, quizzes, and insights to help you learn more effectively.
How do I create an account?
Click "Get Started" on the home page, enter your email and create a password, or sign up with Google. You'll have immediate access to our free Starter plan with 5 AI credits per month.
Is there a free trial?
Yes! We offer a 7-day free trial on our Pro plan. Plus, our Starter plan is free forever with 5 AI credits per month, so you can try out the platform without any commitment.
Features
What file types are supported?
We support PDF files, PowerPoint presentations (PPTX), Word documents (DOCX), images (JPG, PNG), and audio files (MP3, M4A, WAV). The maximum file size is 100MB per file.
How does AI summarization work?
When you upload a document, our AI extracts the text and analyzes it to generate a comprehensive summary, key learning points, topics, and suggested tags. This typically takes 1-3 minutes depending on file size.
Can I collaborate with classmates?
Absolutely! You can share documents with classmates via email invite or public link. You control permissions (view, comment, or edit), and collaborators can add notes, reactions, and bookmarks.
How accurate are the AI-generated quizzes?
Our AI analyzes your document content to generate relevant quiz questions. While accuracy is typically high, we always recommend reviewing generated content. You can edit or regenerate any question you don't find suitable.
Billing & Plans
What are AI credits?
AI credits are used for AI-powered features. Each document upload and processing uses 1 credit. Generating quizzes, flashcards, and additional AI features may use additional credits depending on complexity.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel anytime from your account settings under Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you'll retain access until then.
Can I change plans later?
Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. When upgrading, you'll get immediate access to new features. When downgrading, changes take effect at the next billing cycle.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and PayPal. All payments are securely processed through Stripe.
Privacy & Security
Is my data secure?
Yes, we take security seriously. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use secure cloud storage and never sell your data to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for more details.
Who can see my documents?
By default, your documents are private. Only you can see them unless you choose to share them with specific people or make them public. You have full control over document visibility.
Can I delete my data?
Yes, you can delete individual documents or your entire account at any time. Deleted data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. You can also export your data before deleting.
Is my content used to train AI models?
Your documents are processed by AI to provide you with features, but we do not use your content to train our AI models. Your data remains yours and is not shared or sold.
Technical Support
My document is stuck processing. What should I do?
Processing usually takes 1-5 minutes. If it takes longer, try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, contact support with the document name and upload time.
Is there a mobile app?
Student Mate works on any device through your web browser. We're currently developing native mobile apps for iOS and Android. Stay tuned for updates!
Can I use Student Mate offline?
Currently, an internet connection is required for most features. However, documents you've viewed are cached in your browser for quick access. Offline mode is on our roadmap.
