A SneaK Peak

I love this sneak peak into spring....I know winter will be upon us again in a few days but it is days like this that get me through the end part of winter....even thought it looks ugly when you look down.
Smile, REAL Spring is about a month away!

Wednesday..........

I'm singing in the rain...I love the rain, especially when it is supposed to rain (Spring).
I also love the thunder and lightning, thus making today pretty awesome weather wise.
As for the weight, well. I guess my body is resting, not going up, but then not going down either. I need to figure out what to do to change things up more and maybe shock my body into responding to my new eating habits....

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Image
ImageImageIn April you need to think of the snow in terms of frozen rain or "Frain" as Meg calls it. It makes it seem less cold and wrong seasony.
Hay and I shoveled 6 inches of the frain off the driveway this morning, but it wasn't too bad when we looked west and saw the beautiful blue sky!
I have decided to be an optimist about the snow...the other choice is not so fun.
So for a few good things a but snow or frain in April:
- Lots of water for the plants, flowers, humans etc...after all we live in a desert.
- It covers the ugly in the yard.
- We have matinees at the theatre all week for spring break and we always pray for rain/snow to drive the customers in.
- Cleans the air.
- It looks beautiful as long as I am inside and don't have to drive in it when it is coming down.
- Allows me to put off working in the yard a little longer.

Happy Spring!

A Beautiful Day

I want Spring/Summer to be here full time. It has been absolutely gorgeous here in NYC. I love 70 degree days. When packing I over packed knowing that the weather can change here quickly. Two years ago, this same week we were here with the family and a huge snow storm hit....the only thing that saved us from having to purchase heavy coats was that Hay and Nel were flying in after the rest of us....I called and made them pack a coat, etc... For each of us. The other funny thing about that trip was my brother Adam was in NYC for business and with the snow flights out were canceled and delayed. Adam ended up bunking with us for a night until he could get a flight out... Hay and Nel's flight made it in that morning so that night we had a very full room.... Lots of wild times.
Anyway I over packed with jackets, sweaters, warm winter coat and boots. There is a UPS store across the street from the Hotel and so I am looking at shipping things home...,,giving me more luggage room to fill with the stuff I am buying.

Today was the beginning of being the VP's wife.....I hate this part. Too many people I don't enjoy that I have to make nice with, and I am not a cocktail party person....I don't enjoy all the drinking and the bad appetizers like sushi, and antipasto, and weird cheeses....not my kind of food. The most interesting thing about the night was that I had to step up and figure things out for the other guest since the staff was too busy playing games....what ever. At least I have a break from it all until tomorrow night.
Tomorrow I plan in doing my own thing... Yeah shows and shopping. I shopped today at Century 21, finds! Tomorrow it is Macy's ( I love Macy's in NYC) and the 5th Ave crawl.

Mmmmm the Smell of ......

ImageI was driving past the city park today and the smell of fresh cut grass smacked me in the face! Ah the smells of summer. I know that spring is still deciding to stick around but there is something about the smell of fresh cut grass....Now I want to BBQ, love that smell and then there is the smell of watered lawns and gardens, sunscreen and melon....I need to stop already, or I will drive myself crazy. Spring smells are aren't as pungent, they are soft...blossoms, rain, fresh tilled dirt, lilacs..... And then there are the fall and winter smells...they are the most homey smells...spicy, sweet, pine, mint, pumpkin, bread, ... I could go on and on but lets just say I am a smeller...no I don't stink...at least I don't think I stink, but I like smells. I am not a super nose like some folks, but smell is a real memory sensor to me.
Food and floral smells can really send me down memory lane, but back to the grass....the smell of fresh cut grass takes me back to my childhood, the fun and games we had on 12th south here in Bountiful. Summer lasted for ever and not just the season, but the days, they also were long.
......Melinda and I would play, and play and play outside. We would build forts, play house, picnic, have races and play night games with the neighbor kids, sail junk down the gutter, climb the trees, play in the sand, we would explore and adventure all summer long, usually in the confines of our backyard. Oh to be so young , to have not a care in the world, to be idealistic and free....... I loved those times. I am so glad for the smell of fresh cut grass to remind me of that life.

Oh What a Beautiful Morning and other thoughts

Spring is on its way!!!
This morning the sky no longer looked like winter.....yes, I can see the difference. I know that there will still be snow and cold for a few more weeks, but the promise of spring was in the sky.
The Sun was different, the color of the sky was different, the clouds looked different. We have about a foot of snow still on the ground, but I can already see those crocuses trying to push out of the ground! Then there will be Daffodils and Tulips.....

Back to Wednesday Weigh-in......I heard an interesting thing this morning on Good Morning America's Fit Club. They had special speaker/motivator Cheryl Richardson, talk to them about getting control of their lives. She told the group to answer three question about their lives...
1. What is my life deprived of?
2. Where is my life out of balance?
3. What am I really hungry for (not food)?
The answers to theses questions will help you gain control. She told the group that you can gain control of your life when you make things routine....Routine gives you consistency, builds up hormones you need to be happier, gives you balance and most important gives you control.
The group decided for the most part that they stray from their diet goals when they have no control of situations in their lives.....get Routine and Gain Control....then stop eating.
What a great step in our battle for fitness.

Off to School.....I am almost done with Jr. High School!!!! I have SEOP conference with Hayden's counselor this morning....oh joy!?!?!
I'm back...it wasn't bad. We discussed High School, planning for College, grades....which keep improving, and the results of a standardize test he took earlier this year. Hayden is brilliant.....I didn't need a test to validate that, I could have told you he is brilliant, but then again I am his mother and all mothers think that their children are brilliant until they prove otherwise. All of my children are still brilliant....in their own way. Anyway Hayden benefits from being the youngest, I get it ...how to do school, what to stress about, what to expect from a teenage boy etc.... It is always interesting to speak to school counselors...they have been over trained in how to 'talk' to theses kids....for the most part the kids look at them like they have no clue what their real world is like. Counselors speak from a script and not to the real needs and concerns these kids have....all to preserve the child's self esteem, to make them feel like winners! Kids, especially those who are in the middle know that they don't really care, that it is all just talk. They know that all the counselor is concerned with is getting their pay check---to do this they share the general info to every one, figure out how to deal with the "bad" kids and how to receive accolades for the number of kids who are the over achievers....most of the kids, the middle ones know this and just accept it.
........I could go on and on about the public school system......I am glad I survived it!

But is digress...again......
Spring, YEAH, it is on it's way and it makes me so happy. Maybe this will be my motivator to get my projects in order.......I have so much I want to out doors this spring and summer.

...oh, what a beautiful day!
