About the Artist
Bio
Carol-Anne Almquist worked for the CBC in TV and radio until 1998. After leaving the
CBC she worked in several different jobs but none of them met her need to be creative. She went
to Kwantlen College to work on a Fine Arts certificate studying oil painting, drawing and art
history.
In 1998 Carol-Anne discovered watercolour which led to a deeper level of commitment.
She and her husband moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2017 where she has been influenced by the beauty of the area.
The focus of her work varies from Landscapes to
A series of loose floral pieces. . She sometimes works en plein air and also from
photographic reference. Early morning light, full sunlight or misty days provide the best
reference material. Much of her work is painted with bold values and colour. People are
often surprised to hear that what they are seeing is watercolour expecting the medium to
consist of a watery, pale application of paint.
She has also done some acrylic paintings and this medium allows the artist to work on
larger pieces. Exploring further the boldness and brilliance found in some of her water-
colours. Several of her paintings have been displayed at the Federation of Canadian
Artists Gallery on Granville Island and she has been featured in the Art of Watercolour
Magazine. In 2023 and 2024 her paintings were on the cover of the Sunshine Coast
phone book. She is listed in the book by Leighdon Art Studios called Artists of British Columbia,
and she has been a guest artist on “Artist in the House” the tv series from Eastlink TV.
