Triggered
A murder at midnight. A whispered call at dawn.
On a cold January night in 2024, a man was shot dead in the street.
Hours later, two anonymous 911 calls described a chilling scene: The killer was back—washing blood from the roadway, warning neighbors not to speak.
When police arrived, they found a man sitting calmly on a porch. Then they opened the trunk of his car—and found the body.
The suspect wasn’t a stranger. He was a trusted therapist. A specialist in anger management, and the son of a police commander.
This book traces the events—and the aftermath—of that night in a small Florida town. It explores:
- A therapist’s descent into madness
- A transient’s life in the shadows
- The line between care and control
- The cost of untreated anger and unmet need
- The power we give to those we think we know
- And the questions still echoing through a Florida town
Triggered is a true-crime story about the people we trust, the ones we overlook, and the danger that lives between the lines.
Author’s Note
I’ve been following the Travis McBride case from the moment the first details surfaced in 2024.
I live in DeLand, Florida, just two miles from the scene of the crime. I’m also a graduate of DeLand’s Citizens Police Academy, with firsthand knowledge of how local investigations are handled.
Now, after two years of sealed motions and behind-the-scenes maneuvering, Travis McBride’s trial is set to begin.
I’ve cleared my calendar, and I’ll be there every step of the way.
Trust me: this is a true crime story where almost nothing is what it seems.
