We went to Corviva initially with my in-laws, who only speak Chinese, and the experience was immediately impressive. Scheduling was easy, communication was extremely fast, and payment was direct and simple. They also provided us with full access to our own data, which is a huge plus. For the scope of scans you get, it is extraordinarily affordable. Some time later, we ended up getting scanned ourselves. I never thought I'd be raving about how delightful a full body MRI was...but here we are. CoreViva has set a high bar for preventative health experiences. I'd like to start off by saying that I am not a fan of "Peace of Mind" scanning or any medical imaging not done for clinical reasons or to answer an important clinical question. If you are going to treat the patient the same regardless of the result, maybe it's not NECESSARY unless you need it for another reason such as prognosticating limited functionality, etc. Many studies have shown that indiscriminate imaging have more risk than appreciated because finding discrete scarring and various "bumps and growths" can often push one to ensure that it's benign by invasive means which increases risk of complications. Since the majority of these abnormalities are benign, any adverse effect from the investigation (i.e. to r/o cancer) such as post lung biopsy PNEUMOTHORAX requiring a CHEST TUBE (which a not insignificant percentage do develop) which was preventable. A very small number of people can die if a pneumothorax progresses to TENSION PNEUMOTHORAX and not diagnosed and treated within minutes. I.E. Sometimes workup of things unexpectingly found thru indiscriminate imaging cause more harm than any good that may come from let's say early detection of a cancer that would not have been found and is clinically significant. That being said these miracles of modern imaging are so good that it is EASIER to tell benign from cancerous so there would be less suspicious "bumps and growths and things" so less risk than in "the old days". So less people exposed to this risk. More BENEFIT and less RISK is what we want. Especially using weighted imaging often obviates the need for invasive procedures, thereby lowering the risk (and increases the Benefit to Risk profile). But the risk is not zero but I am starting to appreciate the use of using imaging for baseline scanning with the above caveats in mind, especially with the informed patient. That being said, I made an appointment with Core Viva because I wanted a baseline for my 73rd Birthday and thought it would be a good present. The experience was top shelf. I drove down to their Newport Beach office building which had plenty of parking and was minutes from the venerable Hoag Hospital. I was warmly greeted by Vanessa who made me feel at home. The environment was relaxed, my scan lasted about 50 minutes because I'm 6' 2". James was a soothing voice helping to administer the simple instructions, answer questions("if you need to cough, just cough"), give you a call trigger, and set up the mri for optimum imaging. Every one was friendly, extremely professional and exuded confidence. Immediately afterward Dr. Brian consulted, pointing out imaging abnormalities and discussing their clinical relevance. He was spot on, his excellent Radiology training was evident and he was just an all round "nice guy". I was mentioning the Bosniak classification of renal cysts and mistakenly called them Brosniak cysts. He didn't correct me, but called it the right name "Bosniak" when speaking without missing a beat and possessed a much bigger fund of knowledge than me. Well done sir, brilliant with amazing interpersonal skills. The snacks they had would put the Mt Olympus snack bar to shame. (I think I put one of each in my complementary Core Viva to try later.) ALL in ALL, I was pampered and enjoyed getting my head to toe baseline mri imaging at Core Viva.
