My printmaking story started with an antique letterpress: if I wanted to save it, I had to learn how to use it.
Born in Bavaria, Germany, I have lived in Scotland since 2001. Working as a qualified project manager, I have long tried to make the most of the phenomenal open access printmaking facilities in Scotland in my spare time. Following an internship as studio assistant at Edinburgh Printmakers in 2015/16 I have devoted a lot of time and energy to develop my printmaking practice in a variety of processes and have been lucky to learn from many amazing artists, tutors and craftspeople.
I now practice as a fine art printmaker and creative maker and especially love the tactile and sensory qualities of printmaking, bookbinding, sewing and willow weaving. Keen to reuse and upcycle where I can, the materials available to me often determine my next project. Occasionally, I give upcycled crafts and bookbinding workshops at The Old Barn on the outskirts of Edinburgh. I’m always exploring ways to bring handmade prints into people’s every day lives in the shape of a practical, useful item – not least because it lets me extend the joy of creating.
You can often find me in Edinburgh Printmakers’ open access print studio, absorbed in whatever printmaking process I’ve selected for my current project. In recent years that involved a lot of monotypes and now I’m full circle back to screenprinting… If you spot me there, please, do come and say hello.
Over the last few years I have worked on select collaborations with other UK artists, bookbinding and letterpress commissions. I’m working on prints based on my first artist residency with Spitsbergen Artists Center which is starting to filter through in my ideas and proofs for print editions to come.
