Effect Network, (Effect.AI B.V.) Hackathon OFFICIAL RULES


ELIGIBILITY: The Effect Network Hackathon is open to Individuals (and Teams of Individuals) who are at least 18 years old or older in his or her state or country of residence at the time of entry and provides a submission that meets all submission requirements. The Hackathon is NOT open to:

  1. Those who are legal residents of any country designated as having financial restrictions or embargoes by the United Nations, the European Union, the Netherlands, the United States, or any other relevant governmental organization.
  2. Those who are legal residents of ineligible countries, including, but not limited to, the Province of Quebec, Brazil, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, the Balkans, Belarus, Burma, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Liberia, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, and any other country designated by the United States Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
  3. Those who are listed on any relevant sanctions lists (SDNs) compiled and/or issued by the organizations mentioned above in item 2.

An eligible individual my participate in more than one team or organization, and an eligible individual who is a member of a team or organization may also participate in the Hackathon on an individual basis. If a team or organization enters the Hackathon, they must appoint and approve one person (the ‘Representative’) to represent, act, and submit a Submission on their behalf. By submitting a Submission on behalf of a team or organization, you represent and warrant that you are the Representative authorized to act on their behalf. 


SPONSOR: Effect.AI B.V, Prinsengracht 201A, Amsterdam, 1015 DT, The Netherlands (including employees, temporary workers, interns, officers, and directors of Effect.AI B.V., its affiliated companies, advertising and promotion agencies, and all other entities directly associated with this Hackathon; collectively referred to as ‘Released Parties’.)


SUBMISSION PERIOD: The Hackathon submission period begins on 23 November 2021 at 2 PM CET and ends on 11 January 2022 at 6 PM CET. Judging will start on 12 January 2022 and winners will be announced on 18 January 2022.


SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Every submission must be submitted before the submission deadline and include the following:

  1. A 3-minute video demonstration of the application uploaded to YouTube and made public with the hashtags #EffectNetworkHackathon and #FutureOfWork
  2. Source code submitted to GitHub that uses the Effect SDK and includes a readme with details for deployment or operation.
  3. A campaign with template on the Effect Force testnet
  4. A user interface, either functioning or designed

JUDGING CRITERIA:

  • Technology: does the application integrate well with the Effect SDK and is the software working well.
  • Human Workforce: is the Effect Workforce used in a smart way, and does it offer learning opportunities, and potential for high earning.
  • Design: does the application have a thoughtfully planned out interface. 
  • Impact / Scalability: does the application solve an issue or streamlines a process, and is it scalable.

AGREEMENT TO OFFICIAL RULES: Entrants (‘Entrants’) agree to follow and be bound by these Official Rules and the Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all issues pertaining to the Hackathon. Winning a prize (as defined below) is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. 


HOW TO ENTER: Eligible Entrants may enter the Hackathon by doing the following: 

Create an account on Devpost and register for the Effect Network Hackathon when the submission period is open.  


PRIZE POLICY:
Sponsor will not replace any prizes that are lost or stolen. Winners are entirely liable for any and all federal, state, provincial, territorial, and municipal taxes levied on prizes, if any exist. Winners will be contacted on 14 December 2021 and may be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and publicity/liability release within seven (7) days of notice, as well as a W-9 tax form if applicable. If a winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to accept a prize, and/or an affidavit of eligibility and publicity/liability release is not timely received, is incomplete, or amended, the prize may be forfeited, and an alternate winner will be selected from remaining valid, eligible Entrants timely submitted. 


RELEASE AND LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Entrants agree to release and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any claim, action, injury, loss, damage, or cause of action arising out of or relating to participation in the Hackathon, acceptance, or receipt of any prize, use or misuse of any prize, or participation in any prize-related activity, including, but not limited to: (a) any technical errors that may prevent an entrant from submitting an entry; (b) unauthorized human intervention in the Hackathon; (c) mistakes in the Hackathon’s administration or entry processing; or (d) injury, death, or damage to persons or property caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, by Entrant’s participation in the Hackathon or receipt or use of any prize. The Released Parties are not liable for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, theft or destruction, or unauthorized access to or alteration of entries. Entrant further acknowledges that the Released Parties are in no circumstances be liable for attorney’s fees. Entrant waives all rights to seek any type of compensation, including but not limited to punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages. 


GENERAL CONDITIONS: If, for any reason, the operation or administration of this Hackathon is impaired or incapable of running as planned, including but not limited to (a) infection by computer virus, bugs, (b) tampering, unauthorized intervention, (c) fraud, (d) technical failures, or (e) any other causes beyond the Sponsor's control that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Hackathon, the Sponsor reserves the right to terminate the Hackathon in whole or in part, at any time and without notice, and award the Prizes (described below) using all non-suspect eligible entries received as of, or after (if applicable) this cancellation, termination, modification, or suspension date, or in any other manner that is fair and equitable and best conforms to the spirit of these Official Rules. 


DISQUALIFICATION: Any false information provided within the context of this Hackathon by any Entrant concerning identity, mailing address, telephone number, email address, ownership of right or non-compliance with these Rules or the like may result in the immediate elimination of the Entrant from the Hackathon. 

Sponsor has the right to disqualify any individual found to be (a) tampering or trying to tamper with the entry process or the functioning of the Hackathon website; or any other part of the Hackathon websites and platforms or (b) behaving in violation of these Official Rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive way. Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage any website, including the Hackathon and associated sites and platforms, or undermine the legitimate operation of the Hackathon is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such entrant to the fullest extent of the applicable law.


Your Submission’s content, as well as any accompanying materials, must be appropriate for all viewing audiences. We will automatically disqualify any Participant or team who submits an Entry or supporting materials that contain data, code, text, sound, or images that Sponsor deems, using their sole discretion and for any reason, is malicious, illegal, vulgar, offensive, or inappropriate for public viewing, or that portray Sponsor/Effect Network negatively.


ENTRANT CODE OF CONDUCT: Our Hackathon is committed to ensuring a harassment-free environment for all participants, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, previous Hackathon attendance, or computing experience (or lack of any of the aforementioned). We do not accept any type of harassment of Hackathon participants. Sexual images and language are not suitable for any Hackathon venue, including hacks, presentations, workshops, parties, social media, and other online media. Participants who violate these guidelines may be sanctioned or ejected from the Hackathon at the discretion of the organizers.


Harassment includes offensive verbal comments about gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion, sexual images in public and/or virtual places, intentional intimidation, online stalking, photography or audio/video recording without reasonable consent, sustained disruption of talks or other events, and unwanted sexual attention.


Participants who are advised to discontinue harassing conduct are expected to do so right away. All participants are subject to the anti-harassment policy equally. The anti-harassment policy applies to sponsors and partners as well. If you are being harassed, see someone else being harassed, or have any other concerns, please inform a member of the Hackathon team right once. The Hackathon personnel would be pleased to help people who are being harassed feel comfortable for the duration of the Hackathon. We appreciate your presence. If a participant participates in harassing conduct, the Hackathon organizers reserve the right to take any action they feel necessary.


NO CONTRACT OR OFFER: Under no circumstances may the submission of an Application or Solution to the Hackathon, the awarding of a prize, or anything in these Rules be interpreted as an offer or contract of employment and/or an independent contractor relationship with either the Sponsor or the Released Parties. You confirm that you submitted your Application or Solution willingly, rather than under duress or trust. You recognize that no confidential, fiduciary, agency, or other connection or implied-in-fact contract presently exists between you and Sponsor or the Released Parties, and that your submission of an Application or Solution under these Rules does not establish such a relationship.


INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS: The Entrant(s) warrants and represents that any programming and related materials used in the Application and/or Submission solution are original and/or, if open source, are not subject to any restrictions to be included in the Submission and/or participation in this Hackathon per the relevant open-source license and are not subject to any person or entity's proprietary rights. By submitting an Entry in this Hackathon, you affirm that you/your team and the Entry submitted comply with these Official Rules; that the whole Entry is your/your team's original work; and that the demo presented is completely your or your team's work. You may utilize open-source libraries and other freely available systems/services, as well as publicly available commercial libraries, but you must appropriately attribute any such use.

 

Intellectual property rights concerning Submissions shall remain with the Entrants. Entrants agree to share their ideas with all others through participation in the Hackathon. Released Parties do not accept any responsibility to protect Entrant’s ideas, works, and results disclosed or generated during the Hackathon. Entrants acknowledge and agree that Released Parties or other Entrants or third parties may have developed or commissioned ideas, works, or results which are similar to the Submission of Entrant’s/teams, or may develop something similar in the future. Each Entrant waives any claims that Entrant may have against Released Parties resulting from any similarities to the Submission of Entrant/Team. 


RIGHT OF PUBLICITY: By entering a Submission and/or accepting a prize, Entrant agrees to Sponsor and Released Parties using his or her name and/or likeness, as well as any materials submitted, for advertising and promotional purposes in perpetuity throughout the world, without additional compensation and/or permission, unless prohibited by law.


PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION: Participation in the Hackathon necessitates the disclosure of the Entrant's personal information ("Personal Data"). Entrant's personal data is subject to processing in accordance with personal data protection regulations (The EU 2016/679 General Data Protection Regulation and the Council of 27 April 2016, known as GDPR), for which the Sponsor defines the purposes and means and is, as such, a "Data controller" within the meaning of the GDPR. The processing serves to satisfy the demands of the Hackathon's organization, to manage the intermediation between the Entrant and the Sponsor, and to ensure identification, communication, and the preservation of the Entrant's exchanges. In compliance with the GDPR rules, the Sponsor agrees to adopt organizational and technological security measures to secure all Entrant's Personal Data. The Sponsor also agrees to facilitate the exercise of their GDPR rights.
