Community Description:Personal community of the Flatlanders, a plural group.
This is a community for those who would like to keep up with the plural system known as The Flatlanders. This community is a continuation of [livejournal.com profile] fratrandas, our old shared journal on LJ.

Joining Policy
Originally, this community had open membership to make it easier for people to join. The membership was changed to moderated membership, like the LJ community, for security reasons, but now is back to open membership again. To read member-locked posts, join the community. If you are pre-banned or rejected, and do not know why, send a PM to a member's individual journal. The most likely reason is that your username on DW resembled that of another person on LJ.

Joining is not necessary to read public posts or follow us for our icons, layouts, etc. All you need to do there is subscribe!

Don't have a Dreamwidth Account?
OpenID accounts are now able to join Dreamwidth communities. If you would like to read and comment on our posts and do not have (or want) a Dreamwidth account, we recommend using OpenID.

If you're not sure how, there's a pretty good screenshot tutorial by [personal profile] cee_m on how to log in with OpenID. (Not written for us, of course; it's for a different community, [community profile] fandom_helps.)

System Member Journals & Catch-All Journals
Posting access is limited to the individual journals of our system members, or the catch-all journals [personal profile] manifold and [personal profile] rise. Since communities, like [community profile] flatlanders, can't be used to read or comment on protected posts, you will have to give access to at least one of these journals.

[personal profile] manifold is a catch-all journal for any Flatlander who does not have an individual journal. At the moment, it is the most frequently used journal, due to significant change in our main fronters over the past three years. Therefore, [personal profile] manifold is probably the journal you want to give access to if you want us to be able to read your posts and comment on them.

For your reference, on Dreamwidth, our individual journals are:

[personal profile] advisorRin, hasn't fronted in years.
[personal profile] baoNguyễn Bảo, who previously went by Unnamed in the journal [livejournal.com profile] meiou, and retired from fronting in August 2008. His journal here is an archive of [livejournal.com profile] khongten.
[personal profile] cryptaesthete—is not really John Smith. Hasn't fronted since 2009.
[personal profile] ex_rise312Starfish, has not fronted in nearly two years. Her journal is currently being used as a DW backup of [livejournal.com profile] thebkcam, Mack's LJ, which has not been updated since she retired in 2006.
[personal profile] gyiygGyiyg keeps a very private journal. Don't expect to be added if you weren't added first.
[personal profile] heimdallrHawkeye, also known as K. Hill.
[personal profile] milMilgram K.H., who will probably not add you back if he did not add you first.
[personal profile] potegaAmbitny Potega. No, that is not his real name.
[personal profile] rokuroutatsuyaRokurou Tatsuya, also known as Tatchi. His journal here is an archive of [livejournal.com profile] tatsuyajack.
[personal profile] searching大雪山乃設永, better known as Setsu, though she has also gone by Setsuna. Active away from front, but not very much online.
[personal profile] sheelalSheelal. His journal is closed for now and he has not made posts since 2010 2012.
[personal profile] spacerSevashke, keeps to himself. Hasn't fronted in a while.
[personal profile] theroseRose, who would probably friend you back if you weren't a troll, except she hasn't fronted since 2009. Her journal here is an archive of [livejournal.com profile] yourhousedown.
[personal profile] winstonLiam, still on a desperately needed sabbatical after some in-system health issues. Not sure when he's going to be back.

If Dreamwidth ever offers an option to import a Dreamwidth journal's posts and comments into another Dreamwidth journal, we plan to roll all of the archives and years-unused journals into a single archival account. (Seriously. We'd pay good money for this.)

[personal profile] snowpolice was originally made as an individual journal for commenting that has since been turned into an overflow journal for new people. It's basically [personal profile] manifold with training wheels, and we've set it to crosspost to [personal profile] manifold by default, so you only need to follow one.

[personal profile] rise is also a catch-all journal, but it's private. Don't add [personal profile] rise unless [personal profile] rise adds you. We have posted to communities, such as [site community profile] dreamscapes, using [personal profile] rise, but this was from laziness—"we're already logged in and I can't be bothered to log out and then log into [personal profile] manifold like we really ought to".

Previous Accounts on Other Services
We previously used [livejournal.com profile] sadao, which was originally Setsu's Nanowrimo journal in 2003, as a "singlet hiding journal" from 2004 until mid-2006. We do not post to it anymore, but keep it around for archival purposes. From 2002 through 2004, we used many other journals under a singlet identity, which were deleted in a "wank panic" by a member who did not fully understand how security filters work. These journals included [livejournal.com profile] potega (formerly setsuna_p) and [livejournal.com profile] andartak. Prior to Livejournal, many of us shared a Diaryland journal, Pure Snow / Junnayuki, again under the singlet identity.

As a group, we previously had [insanejournal.com profile] flatlanders as a group journal for the entire system rather than many journals and a community—most of those posts have been imported over to [personal profile] manifold, though [personal profile] manifold is not a group journal in the same sense that [insanejournal.com profile] flatlanders was. We also had [insanejournal.com profile] snowpolice as a tinyjournal, in much the same vein as [personal profile] rise. Both Insanejournal accounts were deleted by [insanejournal.com profile] squeaky in 2011 as part of a purge of inactive journals.

When claiming OpenIDs became possible, we decided it was worth the $5 rename token to reclaim [insanejournal.com profile] flatlanders. We also sometimes crosspost there, but it's not guaranteed.

General Policy
Generally speaking, if you are looking for "Chatty", "Piper", or "Setsu", you are looking for us. If you want to keep up with us in a general sense without distinguishing between individuals, you can join and read locked posts here, in [community profile] flatlanders. If you are comfortable with posts that are more personal in nature, you can comment to the adding post on [personal profile] manifold.

Our attitudes on "being treated all the same" have lessened in recent years—we don't mind interacting with other systems and singlets as "the Flatlanders" rather than entirely as individuals, and we don't sign our comments these days as often as we used to. Most of our current fronters only tend to be bothered if we feel someone is treating us as though we are "characters" of an author/bonder/roleplayer/whatever. We're all "the real person", all right? No one here is more "real" than anyone else.-->
