Programs
Parent Support
FOCUS offers a variety of supportive services to our parents whose kiddos have lifelong developmental disabilities. Parent Support programs host spring/fall workshops, education conference, Support Groups, Newsletter, and Hospital Visits at CHOA.
Share Groups
Support Groups—often called Share Groups—are the heart of FOCUS and the very first program created to support parents raising kiddos with significant disabilities or complex/medically fragile needs. These free groups meet throughout the school year at locations across Metro Atlanta, offering caregivers a steady, welcoming place to connect, share, and feel understood.
Hospital Visits
When a FOCUS kiddo is in the hospital, we come to them—offering support, a quick visit, and a few goodies to brighten the day. Our volunteers and staff stop by with small treats and a friendly face to remind families they’re never alone. We visit the Scottish Rite and Arthur M. Blank locations at CHOA.
Newsletter
The FOCUS Newsletter is published regularly and is written mostly by parents and professionals.
Recorded Workshops
FOCUS offers many ways workshops throughout the year and an annual education conference.
Family Activities
FOCUS makes outings possible for families by raising funds to offer very discounted tickets to community attractions in addition to offering time to gather and form community with other families on similar journeys.
Family Camp
A joyful weekend getaway at the fully adaptive Camp Twin Lakes, where families of children and young adults with significant disabilities can relax, connect, and enjoy accessible activities together. From paddle boats and archery to arts, music, and climbing, every member of your household is included in the fun.
Extra Special Saturday
Summer Day Camps
A joyful, fully‑adapted summer camp where children and young adults with significant disabilities or complex needs shine through art, music, theater, cooking, and recreation inspired by beloved movies. With nurses, trained staff, and experienced paraprofessionals on site, every camper is supported to participate safely, meaningfully, and like the star they are.
FAST Fins Adaptive Swim Team
FOCUS Adaptive Swim Team (FAST Fins) concentrates on perfecting swim strokes, improving stamina, developing team skills, building self-confidence, following verbal commands, and increasing fitness.
Teens and Young Adults (TYA)
FOCUS Teen and Young Adults (TYA) Program supports teens in monthly social activities that vary from bowling; sports activities; dancing; yoga; drumming; or just hanging out. All activities meet teens and young adults where they are at, and we encourage independent participation but always have volunteers to lend a helping hand.
Overnight Camps
FOCUS hosts two overnight camps each year for teens and young adults with significant disabilities or complex medical needs. Campers must be active participants in our TYA programs within the past year, and we encourage families to review our full eligibility guidelines before applying.
