OUR VALUES

WORK WITH ARTISTS ON THEIR SCHEDULES

GenComix understands that the majority of passionate artists who create independent comic books (both print and online) do so with what free time is available to them after working day jobs, tending to their families, and many other daily obligations. As such, we do not expect nor demand that our artists deliver their work at the same rate as established veterans within the mainstream industry.

To give our artists the most flexibility possible, GenComix sets its production schedule for each issue to an average of one year (extensions provided within reason).

As this is atypical for distributors who base their model on monthly releases, GenComix seeks to meet industry demand with a unique approach…

Schedule In Progress

A roster of twelve titles, each with a year-long production schedule, will allow GenComix to deliver monthly releases of new comic books and other merchandise for our audience and distributors — fulfilling industry demands while providing artists with plenty of time to make the best comic they can.

PAY ARTISTS AND CREATORS FAIRLY

GenComix understands a root cause of distrust between independent comic creators and publishers is unfair wage practices, whether underpaid or not paid at all for their hard work.

Additionally, many creators are denied royalties by their publishers, or else earn a much smaller share of the profits, often due to contractual clauses that postpone payment until after production costs are covered.

We pay our artists before services rendered at rates competitive for the independent market. We also believe that creators should earn royalties for every item sold, as they are sold.

SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES

GenComix observed how the collapse of global trade during the 2019-2020 COVID pandemic affected the comic book industry, from significant delays in overseas shipping of Kickstarter pledges, to Diamond Comics cutting ties with publishers and retailers alike.

To protect ourselves and our audience from such uncertainties, GenComix has its products made and supplied by local small businesses within our hometown of Kansas City, Missouri — a hidden gem of creativity, progress, and innovation deep in the American heartland.

MAKE STUFF WORTH BUYING

Paying artists fair wages and favoring local businesses, rather than underpaying and offshoring, means higher production costs and prices at a time when financial insecurity could not be more prevalent. No longer can you purchase a comic book with a candy bar and soda for a single dollar, now it is a choice between a single issue or an entire loaf of bread.

Rather than making cuts, GenComix embraces the new reality of comic book and related merchandise as collectible luxuries by adding value through higher quality, resilience, convenience, and quantity of content.

COMIC BOOKS
358 Sold

Our comic books are printed on 80-lb. paper, with satin covers and glossy interior pages, equivalent to and exceeding trade paperbacks from other publishers. These weights and finishes mean less warping and sticking from water damage, and fire burns more slowly for those who enjoy reading under candlelight!

Each issue is over 20 to 30-plus pages of uninterrupted story with zero advertisements or promotions. All comic books printed from March 2025 onwards will have art on every cover, inside and out, and include QR codes for direct downloadable digital copies. Two comics for the price of one!

DIGITAL COMICS
125 Sold

More affordable and accessible than print, no shipping fees, unlimited shareability with friends and family, and theoretically endless lifespan! All of our comic books are also available for digital download, sent straight to your email after being purchased from our online store.

VINYL STICKERS
659 Sold

Our vinyl stickers contain zero paper content, rendering them both moisture- and heat-resistant. Some examples of their resilience include:

  • Sticking to a water bottle prone to frequent condensation, even as the bottle itself was shattered.
  • One stuck to the outside of a rearview window survived three years of rain, sleet, snow, and summer sunshine!
