As suggested by @Et0h , I added the flag
QtGui.QFileDialog.DontUseNativeDialogon the two file dialogs that showed issues on macOS. This is not a real fix because the bug is probably in upstream PySide or Qt 4, but at least it allows to use all the file dialogs on this operative system too.
