Dont want TAG cloud; want WORD cloud.

I love your widget but I don't want to look at tag usage. I want to identify a set of words that I pick. For example, this <a href=https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArCP1PYtyMA8dERDZFd6RXhOclgwMlRqSWI3M0lzT3c#gid=5>googledocs spreadsheet.
Is there any way to define the dataset instead just looking at tags? (Would be much more powerful tool if so.)

PS, my website is jimkanicki.com and you can see how I'm solving the problem now in this screencap. I go to another site that does word cloud from a URL I provide and screencap their output. (See right column.)

Yes, you could implement a custom SelectionStrategy and return whatever you want. If you need to I could add some filters/hooks to switch the current selection strategy class to your own.

You know I’m not fluent in php by any means. If you’re willing, YES, I’d be thrilled if you could modify a build to allow reading of a set of data.

In my case the data is in a google docs spreadsheet:

Perhaps a field could be added to the ‘Data’ tab where one could add a URL for a custom dataset?

Another enhancement —and i don’t mean to push it— but it would be great if the widget could use the colors defined in the dataset for each ‘term’ or if i could set the color of each term within the widget. (What I want to do is to make winning teams in my cloud ‘green’ and losers ‘red.) I don’t know if that’s a reasonable request or not.

I have a similar request as well.

I've set up a custom post type of songs with artists added using the "Custom Metaboxes and Fields for WordPress" plugin.

The artist list will be too long to set them up as tags, how would I go about implementing a custom SelectionStrategy to use non-tag meta data instead?

@mburgermeister I'm sorry but I don't have the time needed to implement such a thing for you. What I can provide is the code needed within my plugin for someone to be able to implement that.

@shirkcom If you're able to put the code together yourself (or with someone else's help) i could add the missing pieces to the next version and add it to the documentation.

If you're interested in the rough implementation details, I'm thinking of allowing you to specify a custom PHP class to the selection strategy option. Either as a string which the plugin would construct an object of, or an object. Both of which would have to be a descendant of the SelectionStrategy abstract class.

That way you could implement whatever code you'd like to feed data into further processing and styling.

Ok, as I say, I’m not a coder but are you saying that I could edit the SelectionStraegy.php file and add to it a hard link to my data? And that data would then be dataset available for processing and styling?
