A little bit more about me

Yes, I know my stuff! I am a Registered Dietitian – which means I went to a lot of school for this! I first earned a Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, and it wasn’t until afterward that I decided to become a dietitian. I went back to school and completed a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Nutrition & Dietetics as well as my dietetic internship. I love how science and creativity come together in the field of nutrition.

Like so many dietitians, I started my journey with nutrition stuck in disordered eating habits. Thankfully, I’ve been able to work my way out of diet culture’s grasp. In going through this transformation myself, I developed a passion to help others do the same. You won’t find unnecessary restrictions here! I believe that nourishing your body is not solely the foods you choose, but ensuring your meals satisfy you physically, mentally, and emotionally.

What makes a healthy diet?

In general, I do try to create recipes that support health, but not everything has to be swapped for a “healthier” substitution. I personally like to prioritize meals with higher protein, higher fiber, and lower saturated fat, because that is what feels good to me and my family (hello genetic high cholesterol). I also know that research indicates that eating patterns with plenty of fruits, vegetables, unsaturated fats, whole grains, and lean proteins are generally correlated with better health outcomes. That being said – I don’t skimp on flavor or foods I’m really craving. After all, these are just general guides for the foods I choose, not rigid rules. Oh and I eat dessert every day!
