About us

A better digital age is possible.

who-we-are

Our mission

Digital technology today leans towards power for a few.

That's why since 2018, we’ve backed a broad movement. This includes advocates, creatives, innovators, journalists, lawyers, survivors of digital harm, and many others, with a deep focus on the global majority – to dream and demand better.

Technological advancement is only progress when it includes, serves, and protects us all. We don't ask: "who wins?" We ask: "who benefits?", “who is harmed?”

Technology at its best should be a means, not an end, to keep our focus on people: connecting, creating, caring for each other, and flourishing on our own terms.

about-1-sustainable_tech

Sustainable technology

The digital world has a material footprint. We help address the environmental and human costs of the systems that power our technologies – data centres, supply chains, and the increasingly interlinked domains of AI and energy – so that the foundations of the digital economy respect both our planet and the communities bearing the burden of its impacts.

about-2-data_dignity

Data dignity and privacy

Data exploitation rarely affects everyone equally. It follows existing lines of power, disproportionately exposing women, children, activists, and marginalised communities to surveillance, manipulation, and harm.

We back approaches to data that give people and communities greater control over their information.

about-3-healthy_public_square

A healthy public square

People should be able to speak freely – including, and especially, the most marginalised. We support resilient information ecosystems with funding for public interest media and advocacy to rein in dangerous tech business models that polarise societies. We also support digital safety and security through regulation and building of privacy-enhancing technology.

This means ensuring that digital spaces are safe, trusted, and reliable for everyone – protecting children and young people from platforms engineered for engagement over wellbeing, and shielding everyone from harm based on their gender, racial, or religious identity.

about-4-defending_millions

Defending the millions who make tech possible

Behind every algorithm are people. We fund efforts to secure fair labour conditions and protections for workers across digital supply chains, platforms, and the gig economy – including the invisible and feminised labour of content moderators, data labellers, and platform workers whose work makes the digital economy function.

about-5-digital_markets

Digital markets and economic power

A handful of corporations increasingly control the infrastructure of daily life – including how children learn, how communities organise, and how new, better, and local ideas for technology enter the digital market.

We support efforts to build thriving, fair, and competitive digital markets that expand choice and safety, challenge the concentration of Big Tech power, and ensure that the benefits of the digital economy are broadly shared.
