About Me

I am Lewis, a composer, teacher and pianist currently based in Shoreham-by-Sea. I have a BA First Class Honours from Leeds Conservatoire in Classical Composition. Having a solid understanding of the essential elements required for real musicianship, I am excited to help others find their own voice, develop confidence and skill at the piano, and show how theory opens up new possibilities for creativity and collaboration.

Above is an example of one of my recent works.

Teaching

Piano

My piano lessons focus on developing strong technique alongside musical expression. I bring together playing, listening, and creativity so that students don’t just learn pieces, but grow into confident musicians who can enjoy music for life.

Music Theory

Understanding how music works is key to becoming a well-rounded musician. I offer dedicated theory lessons to support GCSE, A-Level or ABRSM exam preparation or simply to deepen musical knowledge, making the subject clear and enjoyable.

Composition

Lessons are tailored to individual styles and interests. Lessons explore creative ideas, structure, and harmony, helping students to bring their musical imagination to life. Composing on paper encourages original thought, aids memory of musical symbols and offers unrestricted creativity, while software offers speed, flexibility, easy editing and the ability to instantly hear compositions.  I am experienced with both Sibelius and Logic software, and aim to find the approach that best fits the student.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe music education should inspire curiosity as well as skill. My approach is informed by methods such as Kodály, which use movement, singing, and listening to build strong foundations, especially for younger learners. I also consider the wider environment of learning—making sure lessons are welcoming, engaging, and suited to each individual—so that students can thrive both at the piano and as musicians.

Composition

My work draws deeply on the passion and lyricism of the Romantic era. Eager to bring this tradition into the present, I am developing a growing portfolio of works for solo piano, chamber ensembles, and orchestral settings. Their style bridges the timeless beauty of Romantic music with a contemporary sensitivity, making it ideally suited to concert performance, educational contexts, or bespoke commissions.

I welcome new opportunities for collaboration and commissions, whether for concert halls, festivals, music societies, commercial use or private functions, and can assist with arranging and type setting projects.
