About Me:
My name is Megan Negrych, and the pursuit of writing under the identity of Mlle Macabre (short for mademoiselle) is an aspiration of my personal goals. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and Japanese Language, as well as a Master Of Arts in History. My major area of focus is centred on Japanese Detective Fiction in the Post-war period, specifically the works of Akimitsu Takagi and Seicho Matsumoto between 1945 and 1961. My larger aspiration is to spread out from the narrow field of detective fiction to look at the historical role of horror, the grotesque, and the macabre in Japanese history. As such, I fall into the category of cultural historian.
My interests include Japanese history, detective fiction, fantasy literature, mystery, horror in all its forms, and Roman/Greek/ Classical histories. I am also keenly interested in poetry, prose, creative writing and photography
I started this blog not only to get my writing and perspective out to the wider public but also as an exercise in experience. By writing more frequently, and on different levels with different goals, I hope to improve my ability to communicate with a wider audience. As such, what I post will range from academic papers to personal perspectives, and pleasure writing in fiction.
It has recently come to my attention that some of the blog content has been added to recommended reading lists by some education programs and/or institutions. If you are coming here from those sites and have any questions, please contact me directly through my email. I always love talking with students and educators.
