I have lived in England (Manchester, Cornwall, Cambridge), Scotland (Perthshire, Aberdeen) and the USA (Ohio, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, then Tennessee) and I now live back in Scotland (Glasgow). I have enjoyed learning about difficult problems in various technical fields then devising software in different programming languages to solve them. I ran Debian GNU/Linux on systems for many years and have switched to using Devuan and NetBSD.

I choose not to write much here about my day-to-day life with my family or colleagues. I don't have any specific purpose for this journal: if I feel moved to make an entry, I'll do so, but possibly more because I simply wanted to record the thoughts somewhere than because they are interesting or significant, even just to get them out from rattling around my head. I often mention questions I am wondering about in case readers can help to answer them. I rarely write about some of the interests I list.

This journal is for me at least as much as for others: in being honest I do not go out of my way to avoid offense or upset. If I might seem disagreeably uncaring or you prefer to avoid risk of emotional triggers then it is better not to subscribe. The entries I make here express my personal opinions only.
